hey all im just starting to redo my 86 stang, its has the stock carborated 2.3 in it, im getting a 89 or 88 5.0 302 ho engine to swap in, will this be a drop in or will i have to change mountiong brackets. they say its a drop in from 87-92 but there aint much difference from an 87 to an 86.

its a drop in...if you plan on going EFI, you also need a computer, main harness, etc. you can bypass all the electronics with a carb'd set up. you might as well go with a 351 carb'd if you want to do a V8 swap. dont forget you are going to need an 8.8" rear, and upgrade the tranny because the T5 4cyl trannies are not the same as the T5 8cyl trannies. if i were you, i'd go for the 351 conversion, backed by a built C4 (properly built, comes out cheaper as well as faster than 5spd cars), and an 8.8 rear out of an SN95 with at least 3.73 gears, and get the 5 lug spindles for the front. you'd have one stout set up right there.

oh, come by fordpower.net, because there is a member, his name is ghetto...he took a 4 cyl, 86 and threw in a 302, and built his car for really cheap. just call him out in the pushrod thread, and you'll get some good answers there. this site isnt really geared towards good tech

you should snatch that 5.0 up anyway, its easy to go carbed on an EFI motor...you dont want an older 5.0 block because the stock heads on 86 and older motors are terrible. the E7s in the 87+ are not good either but better than the older heads

i think ill prolly get the 5.0 guys selling it cheap, says it smoke a little so i was gonna rebuild it new sensors gaskets o-rings and sofourt. upgrading the heads will help, but converting it to crab might be a good idea
