Red face How to replace an alternator

My battery light came on this morning. I have a brand new battery (580CCA). I was told I had a low charge and needed to replace my alternator. I just don't know how to correctly.

autozone can test the alternator for free

    anyways they're easy to change...
    disconnect battery (safety)
pull back the tensioner to remove belt..(make sure you look at your belt config before removing it)
unplug the wires from Alt (typically a few plugs and bigger wire),
    unbolt from the accessory bracket
installation is the reverse of removal

The advise Nicole gave you is the way to go. I'd take it to Autozone and have it tested before I replaced it.
