Question 5.0 to 2.3L Turbo Swap

I'm still at the "just dreaming" stage, but I'm considering pulling the V8 from my formely 2.3L LX and putting a 2.3L turbo back in. There's no point swapping in a stock SVO motor, though. Does anyone know where I can get a fairly hairly crate motor as in 2.3L turbo with serious grunt?

why dont you just add a blower to the 5.0 that would be sweet.

Racer welch seem to be the place. There maybe others google it. 2.3 engines are one of the most bullet proof stock blocks out there. Saw one with a 350hp shot and just a tune. SVO 2.3 stock turbos are a hot item don't underestimate it.

Check out turboford.com and the thunderbird turbo coupe sites-Buy a 87-88 turbocoupe and part it thats what i did. They have all the goodies!Rear disc 3.73 posi-large vam-intercooler-la3-short upper-t3 turbo-e6 manifold-better rack than a gt mustang and gt spec brakes just to mane a few!I did this to a 88 vert and even used the hood scoops out of it for the intercooler-also ultized the stock boost gauge and installed it in my cluster-it looks sweet!!!!

Somebody makes a kit now too I saw but cannot remember who or where. I was wondering if it was any good. Just thinking about what I will do to my 2.3 notch when I am done with my GT.

you wont really find a "crate motor" for this build, the closest you will get is esslinger witch is frickin expencive, the 2.3t build is pretty much a do it your self thing, right now im might be pushing close to 300 hp adn 300+ tq i have a race set up for this weekedn against my dad and his new 07 gt , anyway turboford is teh best resource, you cna score a good 2.3t out of the junk yard for pennys *concidering its an engine* and then freshen it up as need be and add a few goodies, its a fun and cheap *up to a certain point* build but it does have some headaches

Talking 5.0L to 2.3L Turbo Swap (or not)

The more feedback I get, the more I'm tempted to just splice in a hairdryer.

I get the feeling I could tear down the old 5.0 and buy some goodies from ProCharger and fill my boots! I'd like to keep the carb, though.

untill you hit 400 hp and you block splits in half. the 2.3 turbo engine is one of the best ford ever made, they just watered it down to much.

I think we're talking the 2.3 block, not the 5.0 but what do I know?

Anyway, I've decided to seriously consider throwing a turbo and intercooler on the 5.0 instead of the transplant. Anybody out there, ever do a carbed turbo?

i was talking about both, the 5.0 factory block is junk for high horsepower builds, the 2.3 factory blocks are taking 700-800 hp. if you really want to do a turbo 5.0 go to http://turbomustangs.com/

A strong 5.0 stock block is kind of a luck of the draw thing. It just depends on how many and where the factory flaws are in the block. You can safely build one around 500 hp. Some will hold more. Ive seen them using all studs, with a girdle hold around 600 HP,using a 225 shot of nitrous.

You could send Wendy(hernastynotch) a message. She runs a turbo with a carb.

well there may be a *lucky few* i havent seen to many stand 500 hp and if they do they dont tned to last very long *over all*. but in general its about time to upgrade a factory 5.0 block at around 400 hp if you dont want to break anything.

Wendy just dyno'd hers at I think it was like 570 something. In daily driver. She's replacing it now,but because of rings.Nothing to do with that much power. Most of the ones I have delt with have used a girdle also. Look at DSS. Their blocks are factory 2 bolt blocks. They've just been checked for straightness, ect. They're rated at 650 hp I believe.
