    Default heat lightning

so we've been having a lot of heat lightning storms the last few nights and they are usually quite spectacular. so i braved the buzzing, biting, blood sucking insects and snapped a few off...

disclaimer: i am not a pro photographer and i was using a crappy digi cam - they are what they are.

    Those pic's are Awesome!!

Excellent pics, good timing on the picture taking too. I have tried a few times to take pics of lightening and always take it too late.

yeah the first few times i wasn't catching anything in the frame... but then i started to use the multiple picture feature on my camera... i press the button once and it takes continuous pictures until i release...

the lightning was predictable after a while so when i suspected that it was about to hit i would have the cam start clickin off pictures.

out of about 60 shots, the above images were the only ones worth posting...

more practice should net better results.

On some of the regular film cameras you can click the picture and as long as the button is depressed the shutter is open. You can can't several lightning shots during several minutes. My pops did it once with the moon in the picture and over twenty minutes you can see it streaming through the picture... very cool. The multi shutter effect on the digitals are cool especially if you want to animate something putting several of the images together as a gif.

Some digis offer that also-my DSLR as well as my old Minolta P&S did (in Manual setting)-it's called "bulb". And it's fun once you get the hang of it-the P&S had a 30 second or so limit because the display takes so much battery power, not sure on the DSLR yet.
