Let a shop install them, Its real easy to mess up if you do it yourself.

3.73s if your a 5spd, and 4.10s for automatics is the general thing to do.

While your doing gears, also look into a T-lok.

Thanks to MdniteMustang00 for the sig.

I think you've got that backwards. 4:10 for 5sp and 3:73 for Auto.

I've got 4:10's and love'em. I had them installed by a local speed shop. You'll swear you've gained 50 HP.

Depends on what kind of driving you are doing. The higher you go the shorter your gears are going to get. If you do a lot of highway driving and go with 4.10's you may not like it. At the same time if you like to drag race and get off the line quick 4.10's are going to do that and then some. 3.73's I would say is a good everyday gear, feels like you got a lot more power, but it still is very driveable.

If you have a 5.0 general rule is 3.55 or 3.73 for the 5-spd, 3.73 or 4.10 for the auto. If you have a 4.6 you can go to the 4.10s for the 5-spd and 4.30s for the auto. If you have a 4v 4.6 go with the 4.10s.

    Thanks Crimsonblack

Thanks to Nicoleb3x3 for this one.

With the 3.55 gears the teeth are the same and no mods have to be done to the speedometer gears to keep the MPH correct. Any other gear change requires speedometer driven gears be changed.

I have an automatic v6 and went with the 3:73 gears becuase I do alot of highway driving and long trips to college and back. There are the 3:90 gears which would be a split between the 3:73 and 4:10s. But honestly it's the driver's opinon.

I personally like the way my 4.10's rip the tires off in 1st - 2nd - and 3rd gears

I have the 3.90s and I love them.... if you can't decide between 3.73 and 4.10s, go with the 3.90s.... It's like a best of both worlds type thing.

Just MAKE SURE you break them in properly.

Don't fear the gear, get a set of 4.30's you get the same gas mileage as 4.10's and pretty much the same as 3.73's, they are a tad cheaper than 4.10's, and they pull a little harder. I have 4.10's in my gt, and my roommate has 4.30's in his 99, if I could do it all over again I'd get 4.30's

And if you have to ask if you should do it your self, or take it to a shop.... take it to a shop. Especially on something as critical as your gears.

The first guy had it rite..4.10 atleast if your an auto and 3.73's if your a standard. If its not a track car then go moderate and stay with one of them two options. I have 4.10s in my auto GT with a Procharger and I love them-Shane

If your auto...anything less than 4.10s is a waste of money

If you get any gear higher than 3.55s, most plug in programmers will be able to set your speedometer correctly with the different gears. Im getting 3.73s put in my 03 GT 5spd this week. Im also going to have the ford mechanics look at my tlok because my rear end has always made a grinding noise whenever i turn at a low speed. Anyone else have this problem? It was pretty embarrassing pulling into the all ford car show making a horrible grinding noise whenever i turned.
