Hard to get in reverse....

I have a manual 99 GT vert and lately getting it into reverse has become a real pain...Most of the time its pretty good but sometimes it will totally get locked and not let me get in reverse for a good 5 or 6 tries. Does anyone know what causes this and would a short throw shifter eliminate the problem? Thanks

Your loosing your synchronization (sp) gear. It's needed to get the car into reverse. Get it checked out soon.

In my car if I cant get it into reverse I have to throw it up into first then put it back into reverse. It will go every time like that. Not sure, but I have heard something about a lockout or something, and putting it back into first unlocks it? Dunno?

mine is the same way all i have to do is first then reverse

I always just went 4th then reverse if I had a problem

mine wont go into reverse with out putting it in first. not with out some unwanted grinding gear noises.

I read somewhere that it was a common occurance ...but hey mine is an 04 and i have to hit first sometimes too!
