Default Removing the honeycomb insert on '03 GT hood scoop

I'm tired of the honeycomb insert on my scoop, however I don't like any of the aftermark inserts that I've seen. Would I have any problems if I just took the insert out and left it open and empty?

I had thought of going that on my 07 until i though of all the bugs and crap that would collect in it and how much of a pain it would be to keep digging all that stuff out all the time. Unless you can fine something that you like to replace it i would leave it alone. Just my .02.

I took mine out (drilled all the holes out) and the engine got really really filthy... Now if you dont drive in the rain or any of the sorts... go for it.

It will get dirty for sure. Find you some kind of screen you like and cut it to fit in there. Unless you dont mind the mess.

Mine doesn't go into the engine bay but would still be a mess to keep clean.

Unless you cut out the hood, the air/dirt/debris will get caught in the open cavern of the hood scoop.

I wonder if this will cause enough pressure to rip that scoop off the top of the hood?

Thanks for the heads up, folks. I decided just to get my other hood painted(It's been sitting in the garage for about a year)
