Saleen Club of GotStang
Just laying down the ground for future Saleen discussion(s) & to welcome anyone who joins the group. This group is for Saleens, Saleen clones & mustangs w/ Saleen performance parts. If you dont have any of these but have always been a big fan of Saleen, then your welcome too! As long as we all share a common ground/focus here, the Saleen Mustang :-)
thanx,
Jay

Hello Jay. Great Idea to start this forum. I look forward to being a part of it. I joined the forum. Hope I did it right.
George
-
it all looks good to me G! just gotta throw up more pics of that sweet Saleen :-) i am sure you will in time! like i said, have Randy join & maybe a few others you trust & like.
lets see how this works out :-)
-
I'll get the ball rolling. I'm still trying to figure out this site. I'm not sure how you got the small photos to show. :nos:
-
Can you join if you just have a saleen spoiler? hehehe
pssaleen0197 -the second pic on the left side is the team logo (it will show when/if you join a team)
-
OK thanks Nicole. Now what do you recommend I join? Also the answer to your question is yes, you can join even with just a Saleen spoiler.
-
thanks, now all I have to do is get my saleen spoiler :) (this spring)
as for joining a team, until you start to get involved in site activities like hunts and face offs, just wait a little bit. Team features are not yet available, but there will be team events like team hunt challenges and team face offs etc. (J needs to code this stuff..so until he does teams don't really do very much)
groups are different, you can joing as many groups as you like. groups are just something to belong to; and a way to see similar or related characteristics of members; such as the Red Mustang Group and the Hot Foxes of Gotstang group...and yes now the saleen group :)
-
yeah Nicole, since you already know the Saleen wing is going on your car join now! love to have ya :-) how do i invite someone to my group? do they have to go to the group & ask to join?
-
go to the normal part of gotstang (out of the forums)
click on the user's profile
you can see the small icons to the rigth of their avatar, see next to website and under guestbook, choose "groups"
after the listed groups for that member, you'll see the option to invite that person to join the group you control.
or...that person can request to join your group by going to the group page..which I just did that to save you some time.
-
well Nicole is now part of Saleen Club! welcome! hope everyone had a great christams :-)
-
-
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL! I got a new billet belt tensioner for my Vortech S/C. It is a gift from me to me! lol.... I also got a nice chrome timing cover for my Harley Davidson Softail Deuce. It has the US Navy Logo on it. Being a former Submariner I'm sure you can understand the desire to have that on my bike.
-
sounds sweet George. oh Nicole, i dont know if you knew this but George & i have been friends for a few years now & i bought alot of my parts from him for my SC project. so did you get anything new for the stang for xmas? not me, the wife refuses to buy me stang parts anymore after hitting the $18K mark w/ the SC. so now, its all up to me to save for my 3 piece Stern wheels. George maybe the guy who helps me once again to track down these Sterns which are very rare! hey George, toss some pics up of your Sterns so Nicole knows what i am talking about. for a Saleen mustang or a clone as close as mine is, the Sterns are the only wheels that belong :-)
-
Nicole, maybe a silver Saleen windshield banner would go nice w/ that Saleen wing you have planned :-)
-
yeah, I got some stang parts for xmas
J got me a tranny temp gauge and a pillar gauge pod (for 2 gauges) -this is what I wanted :) and a remote for my eclipse cd deck -cause I lost mine on our road trip this past summer. Eventually I'm going to get a fuel pressure gauge for the other spot in the pod, but for now J's letting me use one of his old gauges for the air/fuel ratio just so I don't have an empty spot. such a nice boyfriend :)
as for the saleen banner...wouldn't saleen owners hate me for that? since I'm not a saleen and I still have the gt ground effects? (I like them a little better than the saleen because of the scoops on the sides and the lower profile in the back)
-
see page 3 of my website i just updated. it has picks of when my car was an LX sporting just the older Saleen wing & Saleen windshield banner. i never cared it wasnt real & didnt care who didnt like me for it. its my car & it was just there to support the name of the parts on the car then. even now mine isnt real & i still have it on there. if you want it & like it, go for it! exception to that rule is verticle doors :-) J/K

yeah I know what you're saying...I guess I think maybe I should have at least 2 saleen parts to justify it? I only have one planned right now..
did you change the guards on the windows? did you decided you don't like them?
-
the guards on the windows were broken the last time someone tried to steal my car so i had to remove them completely. this was the 2nd time this has happened to me & my car! the smoked tail lights had to go also. after installing them i didnt like them & reinstalled the originals. when i decided to do the Saleenconversion, i removed all my custom things on the car to bring it to Saleens specs as they were when they were built. when building a good Saleen clone, details are important! here are a few of the real Saleen SCs for comparison:

-
I think painting your molding the same color as the car would be sweet
-
i have thought about that for years & tossed that idea around hundreds of times. i decided against it because this is by all rights a clone & that black molding is what makes my car different that the few production SCs out there. i know what you are saying though.
-
hey Nicole, i am not sure if you realize this or not but the new black netted halo headrests you got will fit right into your stock black seats. i had my gray netted halos on my 89 GT seats, then swapped them to my 86 GT seats. they looked great on both sets of seats & will look even cooler when the Saleen wing is on. you will definatley be taking on some Saleen characteristics there! YEAH!!
-
no, they don't fit, they're a bit wider
i tried to cut and modify the opening because I read online that it can be done with the lx seats...but I got frustrated after not getting anywhere fast on that project. I decided to temporarialy install them in my lx would have looked crappy anyway, so I'm waiting to put them in the GT seats when I get them re-upolstered.
-
they will fit, you need to remove the black insert!! trust me, i put halos in all my seats. just remove the black insert the other post slides into. pull it right out of the top of the seat.
-
hey saleen guys...have you ever found a place to buy the saleen heads and manifold used in the 89 ssc?
-
the heads on the 89 SSC are stock E7TE heads that have been modified with larger 1.94I and 1.60E valves and 1.72 Roller rockers and lots of port work. The intake is a stock ford 5.0 intake ported to the max. Both of these can be done to any 5.0HO heads and intake.
-
I seen a saleen ssc featured this month in modified mustangs...that intake doesn't look like the stock version on the outside and it has a saleen ssc on the top of it.
-
Nicole you are totally correct. That car belongs to a close friend of mine name Randy Pethel. That intake is actually one like mine but he took an extra SSC intake plate and modified it to fit the vortech intake. Looks pretty neat huh? He lives local to me and I am the one that installed the S/C for him. He's on a quest to make more HP then I have. I'm sure he will get there some day.

I'm trying to develop my future engine plans.
and I think I decided that I don't want a supercharger (because winter cold weather I often drive in)
I DO want heads, upper/lower intake, and a cam at a MINimum. BUT I want to make the upper end rebuild work together nicely..so that's something I need to think about when buying those parts.
I DONT want trickflow...I'm sure it's excellent bang for your buck- but everyone has trickflow.
Do you know if I can get that saleen intake and have it work well with some particular heads? ...otherwise I guess I need to find a brand that is less played out than trick flow. I was also considering holly's upper end kit from summit.
what else is available?
yell, i'm a year+ away from going back and upgrading more engine components, but I usually plan one year ahead of my budget :)
I wish I could have made a naturaly asperated saleen (but keep my GT kit but add saleen wing) and make MY take-off-version of a saleen mustang....
whatever I do, I want it to be DIFFERENT, look good, and go fast (280-350 hp is fine)
-
Nicole, my suggestions would be the Edelbrock heads that I use and the Holley intake as it is the closest to the Saleen/Vortech intake. That along with a B303 or F303 cam and some 1.6 roller rockers 24# injectors, 65mm TB and a 77MM MAF and you would make a good 285rwhp easily. Assuming you have the exhaust done of course as well. If I only lived close enough to you I'd love to help you with the engine. It is what I do.
-
cool thanks for the suggestions
..it'll be a while before I get the engine again in my project plans (i've got a 5 lug swap planned along with the saleen spoiler and my 85 GT seats redone in leather)
I HAVE done the exhaust already, flowmasters with an offroad xpipe :)
and underdrive pullies and no a/c at all which reduces weight too....yup I'm ready for more hp once I get my other list done (I got to do the 5 lug, rear end and breaks first)
-
George Spilled the beans on this site. Ready Or Not Here I Am. LOL Very Cool site. It will take me some time to figure out how his thing works though. Bare with me, it's my first day. :nailbite:
-
RANDY!!!!!!!!!!! THE SSC KING! Welcome to the board and let me be the first to congtatulate you on the magazine article. Looking forward to all your input here Randy.
Nicole, what way are you looking at doing your 5 lug swap? There are several ways to go. You can go easy and inexpensive or go all out. I know of several ways to do it and I'm just curious to how you have decided to do the conversion.
-
Randy, wow I was just reading your article on your stang...I never even knew that car existed! super awesome saleen...it may be my favorite yet. nuff said!
for the 5 lug & disk plans, I'll be using 28 spline axles and rear disk breaks. the axles are used from Charlie/onebad95 and we all know his car doesn't have any miles on it. I also have his used rear calipers. The rest of the "stock rear" parts will be bought from prolly autozone. The axles will be installed in my 8.8 rear (not yet in the car) which came from my 5.0 donor.
For the front...I'm a bit torn on it...BUT I was thinking about the 94 cobra front kit which includes the spindles (I need those anyway because I still have 4 cyl spindles). It's a bit pricey...but in the front I wanted to do it RIGHT. I really want my fox to stop like a new car, rather than a tanker truck. the rear I'm sure will be fine with sn95 stock parts.
link to the cobra front break kit: http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...0%201&comp=LRS
I really wanted to do this before the Dream Cruise in August...BUT...the budget might be used up this spring for the spoiler and seats and the cost to drive to the Dream Cruise. ..but we'll see..
-
hey welcome aboard Randy! good to see you over here! sounds like a few of us have some new ideas for our cars :-) i havent been online as much lately. been real busy at work. George & Randy live close & so do Nicole & i but we have not meet in person.
i really like this forum i started. its a cool place to be able to discuss this stuff without all the haters on the other sites - Randy & G, you guys know what i am talking about. lets keep GS a secret from those certain people at all cost please. plus, they cannot join my group unless i let them :-)
Jay
-
Nice to meet you Nicole. I appreciate the compliment on my car. Glad to be invited in the group Jay. George has been quite about this one. LOL
Hey George, By the end of next week I'll have $1200 bucks stashed in my little pile of untraceable cash. In a couple of months I'll start making some purchases. Yeah Baby. Worlds Fastest SSC coming soon.
-
Randy, you decide on which set of heads to run yet?
Nicole, look into the junkyard or anyone with a 94/95 SN95 Mustang. 6 cylinder will work as well. The spindles are the same. You will save a ton of money. Then look at discbrakesrus.com for the cobra front brake calipers/rotor/stainless steel cable kit. It's a good kit. You'll come out allot cheaper that way. I bought my 94/95 spindles with backing plate and original 11" brakes all for a whopping $50.00!!!! So you can really save the money. I bought the aforementioned cobra brake kit from discbrakesrus but have since changed out the calipers to the Saleen/Brembo 4 piston calipers used on the 2000+ Saleen and Cobra R. You will love the added stopping power. Remember the 96+ spindles will move the wheels in and change the front track from stock so unless you are looking to do that stay with the 94/95 spindles.
-
thanks for the tip :)
I recently found out my budget is gone this year (I finally sold my condex and will have a single familay built with a 2 car garage) I got hurt really bad on the sale of my condex...so I'll be lucky if I can even do the spoiler and seats this comming season :(
the GOOD news is...we'll have the 2 car garage to install any new mods in the future...no more craming & fighting over the one car garage anymore.
-
the house sounds better anyway. eventually we will sell our condo & buy a house too. the cars will always be there to mod later right?
-
the best thing for the mustang is a garage :)
yes, the mods list will always be there; so might as well get the garage now while we can afford it (buyer's market right now and I got the new house at a great deal)
-
i am planning on doing the 5 lug conversion this spring/summer but using i will be using the SVO/Saleen rear disc setup & just add the 5 lug rotors up front. the reason i need the SVO/Saleen rear disc setup (axles, brackets, calipers, rotors) is because i will be swapping on Saleen 5 lug basket weave wheels with the correct offsets so it all needs to look perfect. George knows all about this already. who knows, the 90SC repo may shed its silver chevrons & start being the 1988 it really is ;-)
