What do I need to make a JVC head unit work with the Mach 460 system?
Nothing but a wiring harnessQuote:

Tell that to my vehicle, 'cos it's not working properly. The radio has power and tuner picks up stations, but it sounds like somethings grounding out through the speakers. I can't hear the music unless I crank it all the way up and then its faint. The other noise doesn't increase or decrease. I've been told I needed an adapter, and the Circuit City installer said I needed to put a 1000 ohm resistor on the amp power wire.
Ok, let's back up then, sorry I didn't notice before that you have a 92 therefore this is a completely different issue but let's see what can be doneQuote:

What head unit do you have and which wiring harness did you use? Can't fix it unless you let us know the details
It's for my wife's 97 Cobra with the 460 system. When we bought it had a sony unit installed that was doing the same thing, grounding type noise with faint music. Got a JVC KD-G420 unit for Christmas as a replacement. I wired up a basic wiring harness to plug into the OEM plug and heard the same thing with the JVC. I was told that I would need an adapter for the Mach 460 sytem to work with the aftermarket HU, and that Crutchfield sold them. I saw that they sold a harness that had four adjustments for front and rear speakers. I went to Circuit City to see if they carried this item and spoke to one of the installers. He told me the adapter from Crutchfield wouldn't work, it would just blow the amps after time. He said there was a tech bullentin for them, and it directed them to install a 1000 ohm resistor on the blue/white wire (power wire for the amp) to step the voltage down from 12v to 4v which would be the correct voltage needed.
Hope this helps.
well I can tell you one thing is that his info is completely wrong, the crutchfield harness takes the preamp outputs and adjusts them so they are at a level the OEM amp is set up to handle, the 12V/14V thing is bull. your amp will accept anything form ~9V - 15V without trouble
now when you put in the new HU you used a brand new harness, not the one that was already there right? did the OEM harness show any signs of splicing already?
use the fader and balance controls to run one speaker at a time and listen for the static, is any one speaker worse then others?
what I am trying to determine is if it is a wiring issue or if your OEM amp is already blown
I had to use the harness that was attached to the old HU, and the wires looked OK. I'll check the noise as you suggested and get a new harness just to play it safe. At least I can eliminate the harness as the problem with a new one. I'll let you know what happens.Quote:

Need an amp and 2 12"s. Preferably 1000w but let me know what your selling.
To bad I don't know anything about amps and shit. My convertible sounds like shit. Got some decent speakers but it's just OK, yunno. I know most places businesses will rip you off to custom build anything.
Looking for a mono amp that puts out 400+ watts RMS at 2ohms, 14.4vDC. Trying to stay under $200.
cd player for a 88 gt
Is that a factory or replacement?Quote:
