Has anyone gotten the new boost overlay for the dash board? Any comments?

yeah, couple thoughts
-make sure you are making enough boost to even think about having an overlay
-make sure you have a back up autometer boost gauge for a far more accurate boost reading.
- any pulley I've seen available above stock will peg the meter, that would be either 12 or 14 lbs and there is a physical peg in the dash.
So even if I recalibrate it, according to the directions - it won't be accurate?
Just buy a diffrent one if you need to know that bad. why do peopel need so many guages? Just effin drive
Thats like someone asking a question about a car... and telling them to buy a different car. dork lolQuote:

It will be 10 times more accurate and you do not have to pull apart your dash and risk breaking a needel
yea it would be kinda like tellin them to buy a diffrent car if the car they were lookin at sucked. ha ha ha ha
all valid points - execpt that this is not a turbo charger and the boost shouldn't vary from run to run and day to day like a turbo does, so accuracy isn't as critical as in other apps. Just having that guage peg out is cool... and in MMFF or 5.0 (can't remember which off hand) they just did this last month and indicated that if you calibrate it correctly it is worth it, and doesn't seem that hard to do. But still valid points, and I definitly don't have to have one...
thanks
I would just watch and and peg it instead of trying to add more to it. always cool to burry the needel
if you want the inlay go ahead and grab it. its just more cost affective to pick up an autometer gauge, and grab an oil pressure gauge as well. that way you can monitor any changes while running higher boost numbers.
bury the needle until you run into a lean condition and blow a motor?Quote:

Wow Bruntzy
Does this 'free' solution come with a paint brush? We are talking about boost overlays here, not how to defeat the boost bypass valve....get those skittles out of your ass and have a merry christmas

I found out that you can just stick the new guage on and cut the peg off the back of the needle and you're done. No need to calibrate.
I am going to do that just so I can watch it peg again at a higher number.
Ya..well duhh if you had a paint brush at your house like i do and all the necessary materials like i do then ya its free duhh! Do u think im stupid! Geez people these days.....bahahah dude just got some new gauges on the pillar looks bad ass! And you good sir can take the reices peices out of your ass and have a merry christmas!Quote:

Merry Christmas to all...
:nailbite:
I wish i needed a boost overlay, I am jealous. :censored: :attention
lol a boost guage woudl be sweet but i do not need one lol :(
I need one and a Fuel Pressure guage. Then after that I want water temp , Oil Pres & XXX
Undecided on last one...It will be:
A. Volts
B. A/F Ratio
c. Rig a water temp sensor to the Intercooler.

I don't know if this was already mentioned or not, as I sort of got tired of reading the thread about halfway down...
Anyways, the boost gauge in our Cobras (for those of us with '03/'04 Cobras) are mechanical, not electronic, so they are more accurate and, if recalibrated, will read what they were calibrated to read.
Most turbo cars come with electronic boost gauges on their dashes, which read volts off a sensor... Mechanical gauges tap directly into a hose or somewhere on the intake manifold and an actuator actually moves with the specific air-pressure.
The reason some people may want to do this instead of getting an aftermarket gauge would be to keep their cars looking as stock as possible. I think it's good to know this is available.
its a lil something called "boost spikes"Quote:

Here's a lesson I learned when I was building my 350 whp Honda (dynosheet is posted on my webpage). I had the Autometer boost, A/F, water temp and oil pressure gauges. The boost gauge was wrong and the A/F gauge was useless. The water temp and oil press gauges were nice to have, and I guess they would have told me if something was wrong. I spent so much time TUNING the car that nothing ever went wrong! The engine always ran like a gem, and I had a $15 manual boost controller built from stuff at Home Depot!
The lesson learned is that if you want to make power you need to tune your car to ensure that it is safe BEFORE you start buying gauges that are most likely wrong. They won't look so cool when your car is broke in the driveway waiting on parts.
Sorry if this turned into a rant.
Wow,
My original message was to ask if anyone had this 'overlay' for the stock guage and how they liked it. I would think that since the factory boost guage is mechanical (driven off a line) that purchasing this overlay and calibrating the guage while it was out, would make it not only more accurate, but able to read the boost all the way from stock up to whatever pulley I put on it.
I still wonder if anyone has done this overlay.......
