Nicole you are totally correct. That car belongs to a close friend of mine name Randy Pethel. That intake is actually one like mine but he took an extra SSC intake plate and modified it to fit the vortech intake. Looks pretty neat huh? He lives local to me and I am the one that installed the S/C for him. He's on a quest to make more HP then I have. I'm sure he will get there some day.
George
I'm trying to develop my future engine plans.
and I think I decided that I don't want a supercharger (because winter cold weather I often drive in)
I DO want heads, upper/lower intake, and a cam at a MINimum. BUT I want to make the upper end rebuild work together nicely..so that's something I need to think about when buying those parts.
I DONT want trickflow...I'm sure it's excellent bang for your buck- but everyone has trickflow.
Do you know if I can get that saleen intake and have it work well with some particular heads? ...otherwise I guess I need to find a brand that is less played out than trick flow. I was also considering holly's upper end kit from summit.
what else is available?
yell, i'm a year+ away from going back and upgrading more engine components, but I usually plan one year ahead of my budget :)
I wish I could have made a naturaly asperated saleen (but keep my GT kit but add saleen wing) and make MY take-off-version of a saleen mustang....
whatever I do, I want it to be DIFFERENT, look good, and go fast (280-350 hp is fine)
Nicole, my suggestions would be the Edelbrock heads that I use and the Holley intake as it is the closest to the Saleen/Vortech intake. That along with a B303 or F303 cam and some 1.6 roller rockers 24# injectors, 65mm TB and a 77MM MAF and you would make a good 285rwhp easily. Assuming you have the exhaust done of course as well. If I only lived close enough to you I'd love to help you with the engine. It is what I do.
cool thanks for the suggestions
..it'll be a while before I get the engine again in my project plans (i've got a 5 lug swap planned along with the saleen spoiler and my 85 GT seats redone in leather)
I HAVE done the exhaust already, flowmasters with an offroad xpipe :)
and underdrive pullies and no a/c at all which reduces weight too....yup I'm ready for more hp once I get my other list done (I got to do the 5 lug, rear end and breaks first)
George Spilled the beans on this site. Ready Or Not Here I Am. LOL Very Cool site. It will take me some time to figure out how his thing works though. Bare with me, it's my first day. :nailbite:
RANDY!!!!!!!!!!! THE SSC KING! Welcome to the board and let me be the first to congtatulate you on the magazine article. Looking forward to all your input here Randy.
Nicole, what way are you looking at doing your 5 lug swap? There are several ways to go. You can go easy and inexpensive or go all out. I know of several ways to do it and I'm just curious to how you have decided to do the conversion.
Randy, wow I was just reading your article on your stang...I never even knew that car existed! super awesome saleen...it may be my favorite yet. nuff said!
for the 5 lug & disk plans, I'll be using 28 spline axles and rear disk breaks. the axles are used from Charlie/onebad95 and we all know his car doesn't have any miles on it. I also have his used rear calipers. The rest of the "stock rear" parts will be bought from prolly autozone. The axles will be installed in my 8.8 rear (not yet in the car) which came from my 5.0 donor.
For the front...I'm a bit torn on it...BUT I was thinking about the 94 cobra front kit which includes the spindles (I need those anyway because I still have 4 cyl spindles). It's a bit pricey...but in the front I wanted to do it RIGHT. I really want my fox to stop like a new car, rather than a tanker truck. the rear I'm sure will be fine with sn95 stock parts.

I really wanted to do this before the Dream Cruise in August...BUT...the budget might be used up this spring for the spoiler and seats and the cost to drive to the Dream Cruise. ..but we'll see..
hey welcome aboard Randy! good to see you over here! sounds like a few of us have some new ideas for our cars :-) i havent been online as much lately. been real busy at work. George & Randy live close & so do Nicole & i but we have not meet in person.
i really like this forum i started. its a cool place to be able to discuss this stuff without all the haters on the other sites - Randy & G, you guys know what i am talking about. lets keep GS a secret from those certain people at all cost please. plus, they cannot join my group unless i let them :-)
Jay
Nice to meet you Nicole. I appreciate the compliment on my car. Glad to be invited in the group Jay. George has been quite about this one. LOL
Hey George, By the end of next week I'll have $1200 bucks stashed in my little pile of untraceable cash. In a couple of months I'll start making some purchases. Yeah Baby. Worlds Fastest SSC coming soon.
Randy, you decide on which set of heads to run yet?
Nicole, look into the junkyard or anyone with a 94/95 SN95 Mustang. 6 cylinder will work as well. The spindles are the same. You will save a ton of money. Then look at discbrakesrus.com for the cobra front brake calipers/rotor/stainless steel cable kit. It's a good kit. You'll come out allot cheaper that way. I bought my 94/95 spindles with backing plate and original 11" brakes all for a whopping $50.00!!!! So you can really save the money. I bought the aforementioned cobra brake kit from discbrakesrus but have since changed out the calipers to the Saleen/Brembo 4 piston calipers used on the 2000+ Saleen and Cobra R. You will love the added stopping power. Remember the 96+ spindles will move the wheels in and change the front track from stock so unless you are looking to do that stay with the 94/95 spindles.
thanks for the tip :)
I recently found out my budget is gone this year (I finally sold my condex and will have a single familay built with a 2 car garage) I got hurt really bad on the sale of my condex...so I'll be lucky if I can even do the spoiler and seats this comming season :(
the GOOD news is...we'll have the 2 car garage to install any new mods in the future...no more craming & fighting over the one car garage anymore.
the house sounds better anyway. eventually we will sell our condo & buy a house too. the cars will always be there to mod later right?
the best thing for the mustang is a garage :)
yes, the mods list will always be there; so might as well get the garage now while we can afford it (buyer's market right now and I got the new house at a great deal)
i am planning on doing the 5 lug conversion this spring/summer but using i will be using the SVO/Saleen rear disc setup & just add the 5 lug rotors up front. the reason i need the SVO/Saleen rear disc setup (axles, brackets, calipers, rotors) is because i will be swapping on Saleen 5 lug basket weave wheels with the correct offsets so it all needs to look perfect. George knows all about this already. who knows, the 90SC repo may shed its silver chevrons & start being the 1988 it really is ;-)
update, got my new (used) Saleen basketweave wheels & they are in good condition!! i also may have just scored the complete authentic Saleen 5 lug rear disc setup w/ every part needed for the swap for 250.00 shipped!!! this will be a very expensive few weeks having dropped over 1000.00! oh well, its well worth it to have my car sporting nearly all real Saleen production parts. i am now in the process of refurbing the wheels, cleaning up minor curb rash & repainting the centers gray & polishing the outer wheel lips.

Keep up the good work Jay!
looks like its coming along nicely !! Any idea if you be using a stock shortblock Nicole ? That plays a big role in head options. I know you want different but the TFS heads cost less and make within about 5 HP of AFR 185's. They are much better than the 165's.Theyre the only 2.02 valve head you can use I believe.Thats why you see so many. I'd go with them and a Holley intake,or the Holley kit you mentioned as a alternative. All in what ya want.
heres a few updated pics of the work i am doing on my car during the 88 Saleen makeover. the 88 mustang here is now stripped of all of the its 1990 Saleen SC parts except the wheels until i get a few more parts from another deal i am working on. the back of my hatch & the new Saleen wing need to be repainted but not a big deal. all in good time!

cool, love the spoiler...I still need to get mine from ysoffcr (he has one for me)
so, was that saleen logo on the side not used in the 88's? I really liked that part of your car
no, the silver stripes on my car were only used on the 1990-1993 Saleen SCs & 89SSCs. i will be adding all the correct for 1987-1988 Saleen decals when the paint & buffing is done.
so today i recieved a few heavy boxes from Fedex! is was all the Saleen 5 lug rear disc brake parts & axles! all this stuff was removed from an 88 Saleen & going into my 88. it was another great deal i couldnt pass up!
good deal, were's the pics at?
as requested-
i got every nut & bolt & even got the E brake cables too! an outstanding deal all for 250.00 shipped!!

i have also finished the restoration of my 1987-88 Saleen mesh/basketweave wheels. they came out looking great. i removed any & all rurb rash & marks & polished the outer wheel lips. i then sanded the center mesh areas & repainted them smoke gray. it was tedious prep work but well worth it & very rewarding!
