Simply put, the V6 is quite capable of making decent power, but it's not as capable of handling that power. The V6 driveline, suspension and brakes are not as well suited to handling power as the standard GT chassis is. The biggest advantages of the V6 are the lower starting price to purchase the vehicle, and the lower insurance premiums. When it comes to making a Mustang fast, it doesn't matter what engine you have, it's going to get expensive. The V6 owners have a monetary advantage from the start, but the GT owners get value in what they pay extra for: an upgraded suspension, driveline, brakes, and of course - the extra 2 cylinders.
