J, check the junkyards or www.stangparts.com they're in georgia.
Ben, I know they exist. I'd be willing to bet that they'll make more of a difference than a plenum but they're a pain in the butt to install. (at least on the GT's)

When they close a plant, it's hard on the economy in that community, small businesses shut down, and people don't have money to spend...
And I don't know where you got your info, there are plenty of dependable Stangs on the roads that will tear up your foreign junk...

And by the way, isn't this a MUSTANG WEBSITE???????????????

Now for my response to FRPC...
I won't argue that on a "per liter" basis, most Ford engines don't produce as much "power", but if you look at the engine's torque curves (torque is really what matters, HP only comes from better breathing, torque shows the real strengths of an engine), they have among the smoothest and widest in the auto industry.
You mention Chevy, but fail to mention that Chevy's "competing engines" are 5.7+ liters. The Mustang has always been targetted as a fast, economical pony car (damn, you even carry the name to prove it). If you slap a 5.7L engine, you're doing a few things to damage that goal... First of, you're building a more expensive engine, relatively speaking. Second, you're giving the buying audience a vehicle with a worse gas mileage. (not that the '03/'04 Cobras have amazing mileage..The worst gas mileage of any car I've owned).
You say S2000 and RSX-S's make 330 HP at the wheels with turbo kits... Let me tell you, I've been in the import scene for many years now and happen to know people with S2000's and RSX-S, and 330 HP at the wheels is not necessarily what I would consider reliable on those cars unless you dump an extra few grand on building up the engine. Trust me on this one, I've seen them reach their limits first hand. :)
Now, let's go back and revisit that magic number called Torque... You've got a 4.6L SOHC engine currently producing over 300 lbs-ft of torque (99+ Mustang GT's), and a pretty linear curve let me tell ya... Then you've got all of this rice-rockets (I've owned a few, including 3S-GTE, a 2ZZ-GE, and 4G63T powered ones...if you really know your stuff, you'll know what engines I'm talking about)... Let's study the 2ZZ-GE, since it's the closest to your RSX-S/S2000 in terms of technology...
What is it that makes these small displacement engines produce over 100 HP per liter ? Definitely not the internals, as those are good for maybe 130, eh, let's give it 150 lbs-ft of torque... It's the heads containing cams capable of variable valve timing and lift. Like I said earlier, better breathing. Does it make the engine stronger? No.
A Ferrari F430? Get real, you're comparing a 5 star hotel for which you pay 6000 a night with hotels people like you and I would normally stay at, which could vary from 35 ~ 400 a night. That shouldnt' even been brought up.
Now, let's talk about another area you failed to mention. Bang-for-the-buck...
'04 Cobra = $35k
'04 Z06 = $55k
'96 Supra TT = $55 ~ $60k (back then)
Now, considering the Supra TT in stock form is a mid 13 second car, 0 to 60 times in the mid 5 seconds, and stock handling is good but not superb (I've driven quite a few Supras), which of the above vehicles, when purchased brand new, do you consider the best bang for the buck?
IMO, the Z06, but can I afford a 55k car? Heck no.. So my second choice is the Cobra, which means that Ford/SVT achieved their goal of prodiving a heck of a car for a VERY reasonable price.
That's what Ford's goal has been all these years. Their quality might not be the best, but then again I can tell you of quite a few people I know who haven't been too happy with the quality of their 50k+ BMW M3's.
The import scene can be compared in a sense with how people have been, for years, sold on "Clock Speed" for computer processors. Current mass-market Intel and AMD processors of the same "clock speed" rating as, say, a PPC G5 processor, are slower in overall performance because of the way they actually handle data. But the Intel marketing gurus knew to emphasize clock speed as the "speed of your computer!"... Very similar to how Jap sports cars are marketted using the HP rating... You get the picture.
Anyways, if you want to compare current technology with old technology, then we could go on and on about the Muscle car era... But I don't think that'll be necessary, because if you examine the current trend, we're headed back in that direction anyways...
People are simply realizing that in the end, there is no replacement for displacement.
My "foreign junk" will be on the road long after yours is in the junk yard. We used to own an acura legend that had 198K miles on it. All it had changed was the timing belt and the fluids. My MUSTANG, yes I owned a mustang and will own a future mustang(s), but at 80K miles, everything on the car was falling apart. I was wasting money on high insurance and higher repair bills.Quote:

You know, I want one of the 05's so badly. I LOVE the way the old shelby GT350 and 500's look. It's my ultimate dream car to build when I get older. When I saw the 05's for the first time, my jaw was hanging wide open but I didn't get one. I could have as the GT's go for just a tad more than the RSX but I didn't get it for 2 reasons - Insurance cost and the fact that it's a brand new first run production ford vehicle. There are bound to be problems. I don't want to be one of the first buyer "guinea pigs" to have the bad luck to discover what ford screwed up.
And I never said the stang owner couldn't turbo his/her car. I was just pointing out that when the stang owner puts a blower or turbo on his car, he or she usually nets about 400~450 hp which is the threshold of the internals. I was saying that it still just doesn't look right for an enigne less than half the size to make nearly the same power and run the same 1/4 mile times.
Nearly every mustang owner I've talked to about this agrees that if you step back and realize what honda, mazda, nissan and even chevy are doing with their engines seemingly using them to their potential and then looking at Ford's engines. It feels like you're getting screwed. I know I sure as hell felt that way. But one thing you AND I mustang owners can be proud of is the looks.
I'm not trying to bash american automobiles or ford or even the mustang in particular. I'm just pissed because it seems like ford just can't get it right. They have so much potential but it seems like they're just not doing anthing about it.
Eddie, that's too much to read right now. Mabey monday when I get back to work.
hehe no problem bro...Quote:

you say that the "entry level" turbo kits will boost to 300+ numbers...
how much do they cost? a few grand im SURE... so if you take a few grand and put it into your mustang you can have a lot more power than a damn jap car...
BTW i wanna drive a TT or single turbo supra running 10-15 psi before i die...
You might die doing it.Quote:

I go to high school where im learning my trade as an mechanic and hoping to work at a dealer or maybe open a business!
I'm still a HS student, but I work as a porter at a local Ford dealsership. I basically get to drive all of the cars that come into service.
are you serious? a supra stock block will hold 38 psi all day long. it isn't a 5.0 or 4.6. Not that it matters, it has a built engine now, and a large turbo is going on in a few weeks i believe.Quote:

I highly doubt your Assyoura will be on the road longer than my Mustang. I've seen 5.0L Mustangs with hundreds of thousands of miles... Hell, I had a 4-cylinder Ranger with more miles than the Acura Legend you "used to have".Quote:

I've said enough here, we're getting way off the topic, but if you want this country's economy to keep dwindling, keep buying the foreign cars...
And I apologize for the "Assyoura" thing, it sounded like the right term at that moment...

I wouldn't have said that. Now some Fat ass is going to sue you for making the fries, instread of making a healthy choice!!Quote:

Oh, I almost forgot to add, I was an electronics weenie & reactor operator in the service, so I knows a ting or two about those electrons and how they work in most cases. I can field questions on car stereo, car electronics, or whatever else floats your boat. I have wiring diagrams available for just about every Ford from '94 to 02 or 03.
I can also field questions on reactor theory and operation in case the one in your hot water heater quits working...
