hose sizing

I'm planing on replacing my hoses and installing steel braided ones.How do I measure the hoses to find out the size I need to order. I know this sounds like a stupid question.

there is an Inside diameter.. and an outside.. the Inside diameter is more important... it depends what the hose is carrying too :)
