I need to replace the hatch on my 87 LX. I can order one in fibreglass from Cervini's - $750 CDN plus taxes etc. I don't mind spending the coin but I've heard some of these aftermarket parts are a bear to fit. I don't want to get it all the way here only to have my body shop say it took ten hours extra to make it fit. :censored:

Anybody out there had any experience with the product?

There are several companies with... questionable reputations. I have purchased the Cervini rear spoiler and Cobra R Hood. Great fit on both products. Cervini costs more, but their reputation is pretty good.

Shipping will probably be about $125 that you will have to pay the delivery guy when he drops off the part.

I found both parts cheaper elsewhere, but all the comments I got regarding them were bad.

You can also check for one at a junkyard (replacement part). Won't be fiberglass but it will bolt right up and include the glass. I purchased my decklid from a junkyard at $20 versus the $150 plus S&H for the fiberglass version. Always worth hitting the junkyard first.

Thanks, I don't have a problem finding a good used hatch. I was trying to kill two birds - weight and rust. However, given the fact that the glass lid with cost me around a grand and the body shop is leary about the potential fit, I'll probably just go with steel. I can always buy more HP and another steel hatch again if/when this one rusts out. :ranting:

Well I looked around like I said I would. Only found 1 thing on it,other than asking the same questions like you. One guy said the cervini's fit nice and looked good. The only problem he had was the stock cylinders were way too hard to push the hatch closed without that extra weight. So he had to prop it up when opened. The other was the lock. He said it looked like he had to cut it out to make it work, but hadnt done it yet. i found one thread where a guy was looking to do the same as you. He said he saw a cheaper version and it fit like crap. It didnt come back over the taillights far enough, and there was hardly enough room to put the Ford emblem back on there.

I would just hit the junkyard. The weight savings as far as your ET is concerned will be very little. 100 lbs. is about 1/10 of a second. You wont be saving even close to that.

Thanks everyone - The Mustang Shop I was going to get the hatch from actually admitted they had complaints about the hatches and decklids.

So I'm going with steel (used steel).

cheers :ugh2:
