With 4-5000 I would just bolt on a S/C.

What kind of car do you have (coupe/vert auto/stick)? Have you got any mods now? How often do you drive the car? Is daily drivability a concern?

What interests you more, straight line speed or speed through turns?

Do a S/C.

If you've got an 03, I assume you have PI heads and cams? I personally wouldn't upgrade those first, since they're already pretty good....agree with the others who say supercharge it.

Option 1: bolt on a ProCharger P1-SC kit

Option 2: NOS NOSzle direct port nitrous kit + bolt-ons

Option 3: NA build-up (I'll try to estimate a little high on pricing)
-BBK coated long tube headers (~$500) w/short mid pipe (~$200) plus gaskets (~$30)
-cat back exhaust (~$400-500)
-Steeda intake (~$260)
-Accufab plenum and 75mm throttle body (~$400)
-4.10 gear(~$160)
-VT Engines Stage 2 NA cams (~$600) + Crower valve springs ($280)
-B&M 3000 Stall converter (~$450)
-SCT chip ($275)+ tune (varies among tuners)
-Mickey Thompson ET drag raidial tires ($400)

You should be able to buy all of that and still be well under $5000.

For going all out on a dragstrip, if not driving to work every day on curvy roads, my '03 GT would get:

Procharger s/c or nitrous - big price difference there though
Sticky tires, 15" Draglite wheels
Even steeper gears
Sound system and back seat: outta there. Battery relocated to the trunk.

Long tube headers and Dr. Gas o/r x pipe. If you widen the outgoing pipes, the intake also needs improvement.

Try to fit a good tune in your budget with major mods, so nothing blows up.

You might want to plan for a new clutch in the future too. My throwout bearing and clutch were already replaced, and I don't have racing mods; they were just "the weakest link."

There are a lot of cars on GotStang that go to the track - look at their mod lists also to see what you like.
