:cussing: :censored: Well as some of you know my car finally decided to let me in on its lil secret and started knocking. It wasnt a bad knock at idle but worsened the higher the rpm's went. After a compression check of off numbers ranging from 150 to 180 psi I decided it was time to once again pull the engine. This time I decided to do it myself. After fighting for two days trying to get the engine out through the top with long tube headers I gave in and took it to a place where I could use a frame lift. I finally got the moter/trans/suspension out and went home for the night. Next day right back at it with the help of my trusty friend Josh. Got the engine off the suspension or K member if you wish. Re-mounted the suspension and had a friend tow my car back home. Once getting back to the hobby shop we started to tear the engine apart. I got everything broken down to just the actual block and internals and then pulled one piston. The number 8 cylinder seeing as it had a considerably darker rod bearing cap, deemed my attention. Yep I had spun a rod bearing. After puking all the Mc Donalds I ate earlier out I decided to go home for the night. Today I finished dismanteling the block to find 4 out of 8 pistons had decentegrated compression rings. CAUSED BY DETONATION AS PER M.A.S. RACING OUT OF VA BEACH VA. The assholes that built my moter the first time. I think I would know if I was detonating but oh well. So I guess the moral of the whole story is if ya wanna get screwed either have a big wiener or go to M.A.S. Three different ASE certified people have said that there is no way I caused this damage. Race bearings in the crank and the rods, Manley rods, and Diamond pistons saved my ass cause now all I need is a new set of bearings, piston rings, new gaskets, and a turned crank. Non the less lots of blood, sweat and yes even tears she will be back soon. Sorry just had to vent a lil. Let me know some of your horror stories please so I dont feel so fricken bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and by the way 91 I went to centerforce's web site and the crap I was talking about is supposed to stay on there to aid in shifting at higher rpm's.

180.00 for rings. Still waituing on the crank shop to tell me about the fate of the crank shaft.

wow....sorry to hear all that bad news!

was the knock even loud? or was it more of a tick?

I have a tiny tick I'm worried about, and J keeps telling me to relax....
I usually hear it at idle, higher rpms I don't hear anything over the flowmasters

Oh no mine was definately a Knock. You can tell if a knock is bad just by the way it makes ya cringe when ya hear it. If yours goes away as your rpm's go up then It is probably nothing. Hope its ok though.

yeah, I can't hear it beyond slight increase in rpms, maybe after 1100-1200 rpm I can't hear it

my exhaust is loud, but I can hear the engine enough that I would think anything series i'd hear it.

I was curious if you heard ticking...before knocking!

ok...so your car sounded fine..
then you went on the dyno..
and when exactly did you start hearing knocking?

so; what;s the back story here...
did you have this enginer rebuilt...and then put it on the dyno the next day or something? Just curious; I thought rebuilds need to be broken in like when it was a car??

The moter had been rebuilt 10,000 miles ago. It went on the dyno like 2 months ago and ran fine ever since. If you could ignore the low dyno numbers you would never had thought it was bad. Keep in mind I am calling 346 RWHP low. This car ran fast and seemed powerfull as ever but was steadilly loosing power.

No I never heard any detonation and while I was in Va I ran 93 but as soon as I got out here I retuned to run 91 since that the high grade out here.

I was turned off by them awhile back when looking for someone to install gears. They wanted $400 just for labor. I got gears and the install for that at another place. I didn't think DTP did any mechanical work, I think they just do the tuning.

They installed my dad's Blower and Long Tubes... and I've gotten quotes for some other jobs. They are nice guys too.

Yeah DTP was the only one I let tune my car. They are awesome. A lil hard to get a hold of at times but awesome when ya did.

yea its because there is only 2 guys working there, and they are the ones that do the work. But once ya get them on the phone, they do awesome work.

I think DTP is one of the few I haven't heard anything bad about in this area. I know Jay (JLT) does all his tuning and testing with them.
