Wow. And just when I thought I had out-snuck my parents forever! [Or atleast until the 8 days until my birthday..]

A chip that records your bad driving? That's rediculous. Teach your kids to drive right and safely, mayhaps? I don't know.. I'm not for it. And no, that's not coming from a normal "teenager" P.O.V.

I don't have any reason to lie to my mom about where I'm going, or how I'm driving, or who's in the car with me. Being caught lying once, getting a speeding ticket, and the fact that I'm usually not willing to put three other stinky teenagers in the back of my car may have something to do with it...

We live and learn from the mistakes we make as youngsters. If mommy and daddy make it impossible for us to make mistakes we turn out to be clueless and worthless adults much like the majority of society that is drifting into the workforce now. Sheltering and over monitoring your child only hinders their development IMO.

I do kind of agree with the post about who makes the payment though. If my kid borrows one of my toys to go out in a decade ya I'll probably do something......more likely an ECU based governor that only I can disable though to keep her out of trouble....nmeaning keep my car out of trouble. :lol:

We pamper and primp our kids way to much. You can't watch that on TV honey, it's to violent. Don't do that or you'll get a time out. blah, blah, blah. Picking your own switch when you screw up sure gives you some serious moments of contemplation and clarity that "Hey, I really fucked up this time.".

I aggee, except...who makes the car payments?
...parents shouldn't even be buying the car to begin with
and they shouldn't be snooping like that...

It's simple, give you kids the responsibility to make their own choices, or they'll never learn responsibility.
parents should provide basic rules, but not try to control their childs every move.

You are right parents should not be buying the car. My folks always made me purchase my own vehicles, pay for repairs...insurance....and tickets not to mention fight my own court battles for my one and only drag racing ticket.

Looking back that is part of what made me who I am today.......

My daughter will pay her own way, the only difference being that I will likely be the one to do the repairs and the custumization as I ca do it a lot more cheaply in the garage than her paying a shop....she will however buy her own parts and be out there to learn and help.

My mom never held this approach with me. I got a car because I had to have one, and we happened to have two. I live half an hour from the closet town, including my school. Errands, driving the sibling, was a must. So, I got a Sunfire.

During my Junior year, I held a [for the year] 4.0GPA, and a job. My mom was impressed with me enough that she took me out and we got a Mustang. She didn't know that I'd fall in love with the thing, but figured it would be a nice birthday/good job gift.

My part of the bargain was to drive my sister, run errands, keep my grades up, eventually graduate [CHECK!], and keep a job. Well, I do pay for my own gas..
