I actually attempted to dye a convertible seat that use to be in my mustang and it came out pretty good. I am considering a swap of these back into my stang with seat covers rather than the seats currently in there.

The dark blue cross pattern actually looks black with the base vinyl being dyed. Interesting.

Here's a photo of the dying process.

Late Model Restoration sells the various years dyes and paints (interior and exterior).

The dye is a spray on dye just like paint. You clean the vinyl with their prep cleaner (removes dirt, grime and oily substances) and then start laying down the dye spray. The vinyl just absorbs the dye. It's generally dry in a few moments, particularly if you doing it out in the sun to begin with. I'm a moron though and do like five, six or seven coats of the dye when it doesn't really have to have it.

http://www.latemodelrestoration.com or http://www.50resto.com (same site links. About $11.oo per can. I have about 20 cans currently in the garage right now. I bought in bulk this time. (prep cleaner, primer gray, interior white and black enamel paint and black vinyl dye.)
