I found these times in another thread and was wondering what is diffrent between the 01 and a 99 cobras that makes this much of a diffrance in times. I thgouth there were only a few things changed not really much to do with the engine. Somebody help me figure out what knocks off .4 seconds. thanks.

oh alright. I called up the SVT dealer and asked them they said it is the same car the only things that were changed were the things on the insides IE seats CD player and such. Said that the reason it is diffrent was becuase of the fix they had in 99 and he siad they are the same after the fix.

Yea, it looks like the '99 times you got were done testing a unit prior to the recall fix. I believe it mainly had to do with rerouting of the exhaust piping, making it more restrictive, this just before production but noone at SVT noticed the HP/torque loss until independent test results came in.

Was answered before I had a chance:( I had an 01, and although it felt strong, I had a hard time launching with the IRS.

The only thing I'm a little skeptic about is the 0 to 60 times... 4.8 seconds seems a bit off for a 2001... The 13.5 should be achievable though. Maybe I'm wrong?

The HP difference without the fix was probably 20, maybe 25 at the crank if I remember correctly. 25 HP, imo, would not shave off .6 seconds off 0 to 60 times.

I could be wrong...

That is nothing but driver and test method error...

You ever watch Motor Trend TV? Those faggots get in a car for the 0 to 60 test and just boil the tires, then post shitty times for cars.

In the hands of a competent Mustang driver, it is quite possible to make a significant difference. Trying to think of a particular guys name from the Mustang mag world, but it ecsapes me, he could jump in your car and smoke any track times you ever put down. I never got the hang of launching on street tires at the track, always ended up bogging or boiling, never got the neck snapping launch. I just pedaled my way through first each time. Could be the lowering springs and crappy weight transfer working there though...

Yea Wheel hop.... Install some kenny brown IRS bushings, I like mine, thats an a two inch drop helps a TON.. I launch at about 3k and spin very little, but thats on 24psi in 275 tires.....
my best 60' foot i 1.87 and trapped 82 in the 1.8th so
Drivers mod is a big thing..... and the FIX like you stated above...
But if you want a race a cobra get ya a SOLID REAREND out of a MACH 1....
EASY AS THAT

I'll look into the kenny brown bushings... Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm keeping IRS because I don't drag my Cobra. Most of the hard driving I do is on twisties and freeway... I hated the solid rear axle's handling on the twisties...

It was fun just to burnout... That's about it. :)
