My car makes a light hissing sound when it first starts up i press the clutch it goes away i let off it comes back. It only does this for a few seconds but it annoys the shit out of me. I took it and had it checked out the guy said it was some front baring or somethign like that. said it woudl cost me 450 to get fixed since they have to drop the tranny out of the car. Was wondering if you guys knew anythign about trannys and might be able to tell me what a good price to have this fixed is and if it is worth it. he said that it was pretty common.

450 is alright for anything that has to do with dropping a tranny and putting it back up

could be the pilot bearing, but thats a good price, put it this way i charge 150 just to take off a tranny. and 150 to put it back on. it is expensive work.

if it's making a sound that is bad.. you should get it looked at asap. 450 bucks is a small price to pay to keep you from buying a whole new transmission

I would replace bothe Piolet and throw out while it was out...Also have the clutch and pressure plate inspected.

how much is a new clutch and pressure plate? Shit when i press the clutch in my car it is hard to press in compaired to most other cars i have drove. like a ranger and a silverado. i figured that was normal.

Yeah I had an eagle talon that the transmission made a sound like you describe, back in the day....... the transmission litterally exploded when I was just cruising on the interstate. Not hammering, cruise controll set on 75 in 5th gear. So yeah, i'd get it checked out as soon as possible before your gears and flywheel go through the hood of the car behind you, like mine did

nothing is wrong with your clutch...its supposed to be stiff. when you upgrade the clutch it'll only get stiffer. you know your clutch is going when it gets soft, so you are fine.

Your throw-out bearing is what is making the noise. It only does it when it in the morning because the car has sat and the metal got cold. When metal gets hot, it expands, when it cools off, it retracts. The bearing is making noise because it is worn and has a slight amount of play(just enough to make some noise), when it warms up, the metal expands and reduces the amount of play in the bearing. You will need to have this replaced as soon as possible becaus it will do more damage to your pressure plate and possibly your clutch. I hope this information helps you.

i cant hear it, so it could be either the pilot or throw out bearing, have a mechanic drop the tranny and inspect them, i doubt your tranny is gonna explode, but just have them check it

Can't hear squat in that clip. I'd be suprised if Ford was still using aluminum bearing retainers on their tranny. I think the T5 went to steel from the factory starting in '94. It is most likely a worn throw out bearing. The sound being coupled to the clutch action lends credence to this.
You could pay the guy to fix this for you, or easily do it yourself, depends on what $450 is worth to you (it's a days work in my world, but only a half day wrenching, the math tells me to do it myself)

T-45 in my car. But i do not know shit about the barrings in a tranny. and what gets me is if somethign that goes away before i leave the drive way and does not come again untill i start the car the next morning makes me wonder if this guy is just telling me this and wants to make 450 bucks to tighten 2 bolts. hard to trust people.
