Finally updated to PhotoImpact 10 Pro. It's been sitting on my shelf for a couple of months. That's OK though, I have Photoshop CS2 and haven't loaded it yet either. I was using PhotoImpact 6 (I didn't like the upgrades to the later versions.)

This is using the new "Alien Skin" plugin that comes with this version. It looks good with 1Nasty96 tearing through an image of itself. I like it.

This version of PhotoImpact 10 pro is currently selling for $74.oo at Costco/PriceCostco with a $20 mail in rebate. Included in this package is the following... compression software, Alien Skin Xenofex 2, 3D text , special effects, button creator, banner creator, gif animator, html creator, applet creator, Loading partial images, creating thumbnails, creating images for PDA's - cell phones, and ebay, morph software, Cool 360 (which allows you to create a 360 degree view - say from the interior of your car in a complete circle combining images just like they do for realtor websites.) and more.

i've been using version 11 for a little while now... it doesn't seem as stable to me as version 10 was. altho i did just install a bug fix for 11, i haven't test-driven the fix enough yet to say whether it did much good.

overall tho i still prefer it for some editing over paintshop pro

I never cared for PaintShop Pro. PhotoImpact 6 was somewhat perfect and I enjoyed how things work. Even 10 is doing things with an extra step or two I didn't have to do before which I am still getting use to. I thought PhotoImpact 8 was crap with the changes they made and couldn't get it off my computer fast enough.

I need to buckle down with Photoshop CS, but I dread getting into the 900 page aftermarket manual and going through the sucker page by page to understand everything it will do.

i dread shucking out that kinda money for photoshop even tho i know it is a superior application. i love editing and i am constantly using both ulead and corel applications, but i just don't mess with graphics seriously enough to invest the kinda clams adobe wants. ;)

I didn't purchase CS either. I am not going to pay $1200 for the professional version I got my hands on. A gentleman from work was able to download a copy with some... fixes that allow you to put it on your computer. It's how I got some other stuff like 3D Studio Max 8.0, Bryce 4.0 and so on. I have been lucky to get the stuff. I have been using Ulead PhotoImpact since version 3.0 that came with my very first scanner years ago. It's powerful and almost as strong as PhotoShop. A company called NOVA now owns Ulead.
