View Full Version : Is there a way to make a stock fuel system make more pressure?

I have an air fuel gauge and it says I am running lean. I have multiple engine mods and such but I have not upgraded my fuel system. Should I change the fuel pump or injecters? What would be my best bang for the buck? Thanks for any help you can give me.

I also know that all air fuel gauges are not correct. I had it dynoed and it still said it but I think I am going to get it done again.

Yes you can upgrade it and with your mods you need to. I'm thinking 24# injectors should get it done for you, Their working for me but I dont know your cam specs. You'll need a better pump also, you could do what I did and install the Focus STV pump, its a direct bolt in and easy to do, or you could upgrade to the 03/04 Cobra pump set-up. Now sure what your running for a tune but you need to get it retuned after the changes. Since your a nitrous car that should take care of it, but dont use the nitrous till you fix the lean problem.

On a side note how do you like the RR intake, I keep getting mixed reviews on it. Either way its looks great. I love to see your dyno numbers with it and see what kind of torque your getting.

Most A/F guages are CRAP - unless it's getting the signal from an o2 bung - which I doubt.

If it's the autometer LIGHT-SHOW, it is useless.

A dyno with wideband is the only way to tell.

With your compression you are running it's posible though - only a wide-band will know for sure.

I'd suggest getting a custom chip with a MULTI-CHIP-SETTING control switch - tune it for NA and then also for your nitrous.

you've done so much that you definitely need a custom tune. What part of NY are you in????

Im in San Diego, I have a three position Diablo Predator chip. One for N/A, One for N2O and one for dummies not to be able to steal lol. I love my R/R Intake. It has performed quite nice for me. It is the cause of my low dyno numbers with it being N/A but as soon ass I feel that the engine is broken in enough and Spray then I am sure the loss of power normally will be well worth it. I have the 500 miles/first oil change done and now I have almost 1300 miles on the engine total. I have just recently started to bang it hard. The place that built my engine is 3000 miles away so I want to make sure everything is perfect before I spray or be hard on it. I am thinking another 200 miles will be good then I am getting it retuned and dynoed. I am going to a different place though cause I think the last place gave me a shitty tune. My friend sean at MAS Racing that built the engine said there is no way that I didnt have 300-330 HP to the wheels N/A. He said the guy didnt tune it right for the cams, head work, intake, and such so we will see. He also said since it had nitrous cams he probably didnt tune the timing right. I really just dont want to run my car lean though. The gauge is a Pro Comp Ultra Light and it is hooked into the wire that comes off the O2 sensor. Thanks for the advice though.

I know a lot of Cobra guys max out the fuel system around 500HP and are having good luck with Boost-A-Pump from Kenne Bell. Their website has some good tech stuff about fuel systems. Here's one. (http://www.kennebell.net/media/articles/FUELFLOWFORENSICS.pdf) Good luck.

OK....

What about when you spray? Where are you getting your fuel? Is is a wet kit? You still running a returnless system?

I'd say you most likely need 36lb injestors and at least a new in tank pump - regardless.

You really should have lost power in NA though - big cams but with your new compression you should be sittin nice.

Yeah it is a wetshot or fogger i guess its called. I am rnning the returness system and if ya look at my site it will show ya hw the tubing s run. I get my fuel supply from the fuel rail. I think I am goingto step up the inectors and pumps though. It cant hurt. Thats one of the only things left to upgade
