On Sunday, the first day of a nine-month pilot program, six fixed cameras on Loop 101 in Scottsdale Arizona took digital pictures of 1,733 motorists driving at least 76 mph, which is 11 mph over the freeway's speed limit. On Monday the number of cars captured by the cameras dropped to 741.
Despite the early numbers, the Senate Transportation Committee on Tuesday voted 4-1 in favor of Senate Bill 1146, which allows Scottsdale to finish its program but would ban photo enforcement on state freeways.
Scottsdale is the first city in the nation to use fixed cameras to monitor speed on a state freeway.
That is $272,081 dollars in the first day!! What does everyone here think about this subject? Yay or nay on photo radar?? :nailbite:

Yes, that is the only way it can be fought in court.... Never drive your own car when speeding in a camera zone....

This is why something like this will never pass... they have to be able to take a picture of the drive too. LOL Im gonna wear a mask

I dont think it will stand......I would say Nay simply for the fact that you cannot prove who was driving the vehicle and it is the courts job to prove with more than 50% belief in the facts that you were speeding and at fault and deserved the ticket....
all I would need to say in court is I was not driving.....and they would have no rebuttle for that....its the driver who gets the ticket, not the car....

The cops shouldn't get cameras to do thier job. If a cop can't sit by the road and catch me then why should I get caught speeding. I know that cops have alot of duties and things to deal with but if they can't enforce the law then should I get a ticket from a camera? They would cause more problems then good.

It would stand, Driving is a privilege, not a right so there is no preponderance of evidence. The camera catches the plate , you as the registered owner will get the ticket, if you dispute it by saying , I wasn’t driving. The court will simply ask you who was. If you say I don’t know ( then ya just look like a idiot ) and you will be responsible anyway. If you refuse to say, you can be held in contempt until you do / fined more then the ticket itself . If you tell them it was so and so. You now just became the courts witness against them.
The only possible defense I see is to check what type of radar system tagged you, find out when it was last calibrated / tuned / serviced , was there any power outages / surges that interrupted service to the machine, etc. etc.
In a human situation:
A LEO on a vascar team that wasn’t certified, that ticket was dismissed, who knows how many others still just paid the ticket, It happens under staffed , no budget etc.
So basically you're fighting the validity of the machine.
For the record I dont like the camera system

The Cameras being used are VERY high definition and it gets an extremely clear photo of the driver from the front and the plate from behind, all triggered by the sensors implanted in each lane. The ticket is sent to the registered owners address, so someone has to pay the ticket regardless of who was driving the car. Very few people have fought and won the battle in court. :smack:

it sucks , i would support a ban on all unmarked police cars too. its just unfair entrapment..

I would most definately win a case like this in court . I have beaten the Texas legal system for years on simple things like failure to provide the correct info before the case went to court . This would be easy to beat on the grounds that you cannot ticket a car for speeding . Its a moving violation and therefore can be proven in court that if falsely convicted would have effects on a persons driving record and would increase their insurance rates . I guess we will see if it holds up , they are trying the crap here in San Antonio with red lights .

It will stand up in court. The Japanese have been using it for years and the US will adapt the method. Overall it's a cheap way to get money for the state without any confrontation.
To correct the law about who's driving the car you will find a law change simply making the owner of the car responsible for the speeding ticket regardless of who is behind the wheel.
We live in states that hve become greedy, mean and nasty. They harass someone driving 30 in a 25 with a ticket. It takes at least two cops to give you the ticket and they will turn around and tell you how they are protecting the community and need more cops to patrol all the areas and catch the bad guys.
Cops sit all day in speed traps through a city. What could these 50 to 100 cops being doing rather than speed traps? Why catching the bad guys of course. Who needs a speed trap when you have a camera system giving out tickets 24/7, 365 days a year. Now the cops will ask you, Joe public for more money to hire more cops.
We are screwed 24/7 365 by the very people we elect to serve the public trust. It's hard to walk sometimes with so many hands digging in your pockets. This ATM is closed :closed:
