View Full Version : What do you look for in a Face Off?

There has been a crap load of discussion about how people vote on a face-off. What are you folks looking for when you check out a face-off. What do you like, and what turns you off? Please post... It should be interesting to see what people are expecting or looking for.

Me?

Likes: I like and expect quality photos of the cars. If you want to do face-offs then you should have the quality images. It's pretty easy to download from a digital camera these days. I don't pay attention to the extra stuff like photos of other cars, girlfriends or boyfriends or whatever. It's all fodder when you do the face-off. It's all about the car. I also favor the fox body Mustangs... if, the pictures are quality images. And I love cars that people are working on themselves to restore or fix up. I'll choose a bit lesser car if one is hands on and the other is store bought that way. It makes a huge difference.

Dis-Likes: Music videos on the sites. While many think it's cool, it's also a pain in the ass having to listen to someone's music that you don't like and having it start over again when you check out another page. I won't vote for Mustangs that have a few crappy photos of the car, and a hundred pictures of themselves and friends. If it's you with the car, that's cool. Another turn-off is posting to my gotstang site or in the forums that your in a face-off and they need a vote. That comes back to the buddy system, which is normal in just about any situation.

As an Example, If Nicole3X3 (since she is doing a V8 conversion) put her car up against a similar Mustang except it had a V8, the V8 doesn't get the Automatic Win. The chromed out motor doesn't impress me as much as the work Nicole's has put into her own car. I don't care that it's a four banger. She's likely to get the vote because she works on her own mustang and I have had correscpondence with her in the past about Mustangs. Her doing the conversion is totally awesome and would hold a huge voting factor for me in a face-off. That's a bit of the buddy system, but also I know how much work she does on her own car. Her great looks do not play into how I vote as it does with some people. I have seen someone win a few face-offs despite having two or three poor quality images of their car and a bunch of photos of themselves. It's should be about the car.

I have certain likes and dislikes as well, and where as the music videos don't bother me so much, I just use them as a way for you to get a feel of who I am. I don't have pics of myself on my page and do have pics of Eleanor, however I don't want your vote for my pics of that car strictly because it's not mine. I look at the exterior of the car, and yeah sometimes if the face off is titled interior or engine then I go based on that. I am a very visual guy and enjoy custom work. I have more respect for the guy who does something different than the person that does the same mods as everyone else, granted I did a Saleen conversion but my end result will be different than any other. I really go for uniqueness. I mean so you have a Roush what's different about your Roush than any other Roush, or it could even be a V6 or a 4 banger soon to be a V8 like Nicoles. Color combos also play a role in what I like. I'm very design and concept oriented and if you have a good design or concept to your vehicle it gains major points with me.

When it comes to me looking at face off contenders I take a look at the face off heading and then the two cars. If a stock car has taken on a moderate to heavily modified car, the stock car will never get my vote unless the modded car is a wreck in appearence, otherwise ...you want to take on the top of the food chain then accept your fate. I refuse to give my vote on a car that is "bought not built" or completely stock against a person who has spent more money on his/her motor alone in some cases, than the entire purchase of the other's ride.
I look at each of the cars to see quality workmanship in mods, paint wether it be original, new or 25 years old and perfect in quality. I perfer to look at pics that cover as much detail as possible to show all of what you bring to the table. I like to see very clean cars that have been cared for and if altered than the quality of the workmanship and attention to detail.
I don't care about videos or the color of the car. I don't care if it's a four cylinder against an eight but the lesser of the two cars in appearance or in the middle of a project that dosen't have all the T's crossed and so forth doesn't cut it for me. This is not saying I don't like the car or you I love all years of stang, but your asking for my vote in a face off and that's different (correct?)
I don't care if it's two different era's of stang because that should have no bearnece on anyone's decision because unless the heading is such for instance(what era car do you prefer?) than it's car against car.
The only time I don't mind about pm's on face offs is when I'm asked to take a look at it and throw a vote either way to get voters involved.

I'm a tough person to get votes from and it's because I know myself to be a stickler for detail, evert, quality and in the event that the car is modded I can appreciate the amount of money and time a person has put into there ride and deserves my respect. :thumpupn:
The bottom line is unless I'm directed by the title of the face off,or the cars are bone stock for bone stock and the only thing is pick the cleaner car or a prefered color than it's car against car for me and you should try to bring your best effort foward. :beerchug:

This is what is posted in my comments in my current face off. This chick votes all female all the time. And yes I will give it to her that most of the girls on here have badass cars, but It's pretty freakin obvious how she votes when everytime a girl is in a face off she leaves a dumbass comment like this supporting one way or the other. The whole point of the face off is to be anonymous and subjective, and she is not going by this.

Your Blower cost more than what I paid for my 87 Convertible Mustang no doubt. My car will turn 20 in 2006 and the girl who owned it didn't maintain the car at all. It was shit house when I picked it up. Between rebuilding the tranny and having the breaks completely redone costs me almost what I paid for the car. The restoration hasn't been that noticable but it's there. Just getting a car back up to spec is costly, even for a fox body. I was amazed what stock parts were missing from under the hood. But I agree with you. It's about the wormanship, the effort, mods and paint.

Even an awesome car looks like shit in a bad photo. Some people expect to win a face off simply because they list all the mods they have on the car. You've got to have the quality photos too to sport the whole package. I won't vote for a car that has crappy photos posted. :nutkick: :diss:

I look for what I look for in car show's and also the performance factor.

Meaning:

1. What is done to the car.
2. Quality of the work done.
3. If you did the work yourself.
4. Parts selected.
5. Clean lines to the car.
6. How the car runs if it's geared more towards performance.

Basically, to sum it up I give no votes to the buddy system. I look at the car's and vote for whose I think is better. I have some friends on here and they know how I feel. I wouldn't want anyone to vote for my car just because they are friends of mine. I have seen it happen way to much on here. It is starting to remind me of "Rank My Ride". Which in my opinion is a total waste of a website. This is an extremely good site that is growing in leaps and bounds. It is up to us to maintain the integrity of this site and keep growing it.

We have lost certain member's from this site because of the buddy b.s. that is going on.

I heard she apologized to you for doing that, I doubt she will be posting who she votes for anymore!!! I think she realizes thats not right telling who she voted for!!! I hope you aren't mad at me, I didn't do anything wrong, I don't ask people to vote for me, I use to when I 1st came on this site but I haven't done that in forever!!!

No I'm not the least bit mad at you. And you could have been a little bit nicer about absolutely beating my ass but hey. She has done that on two of my face offs and they both happened to be against girls on this site. You know I appreciate girls loving cars and it's even better when girls like mustangs, but just because you have that common bond doesn't mean you have to support one another all the time and she said she doesn't do that but I've seen many times where it has defninitely appeared that way. Which ruins the whole fun of it.

I'm sorry I beat you that bad, I thought for sure you would win and I am not just saying that!! You have a awesome Stang!!! I know what you mean though about how people vote sometimes well I always check out both of the sites and look at the cars before I vote, that is the only fair way!!!
I am glad you aren't mad at Granny
