I bought my 2004 GT used, 13,000 miles on it. When I am in 4th gear @ 70 mph, it seems as though the motor is revving too high, and 5th is too sluggish to use at that low speed. I have no idea what ratio the rear gear is. Does anyone else relate to this? :hmmm:

I'm not redlining or anything, just around 3 grand, but it seems like that is too high for cruisin' 70. And with gas at 2.90 a gallon in Phoenix, try to save a little fuel here and there, just for when the time comes to REALLY nail it!! Any ideas on how to determine what ratio I am running in the rear gear?

what RPM are you at when you're going 70?

Using some calculators I found on the net... assuming you are running with a tire diameter of approx 26". At exactly 3000RPMs at 70MPH yields a final gear ratio of 3.31. So I'd hazard a guess you have stock gears (3.27).
5th is for crusin, it's an overdrive gear, it's not for accellerating.
Downshift when you want to get on in bro... 3rd is a good gear to grab when your at 70 and want some spritly performance :D

You can also jack up the back, mark the driveshaft, rotate the rear tires and count how many revolutions the driveshaft makes per one turn of the wheel. Just over 4 times= 4.10's, 3 1/2 times= 3.55's, etc. Less Math this way.
