View Full Version : I dont get it....
Why do people put gauges on their car if they didnt modify anything done to the engine?
The only time I even thought about gauges was when I added my 65 shot of nitrous... and now I have a blower on their so I have a boost gauge.
Please share.

So people driving next to them can go Ooooo Ahhhh! They must have a HEMI!.......
Mine is very mildly modded, but I added my Water Temp because the factory one became unreliable, and the trans temp because the car didn't have one from the factory..and i wanted to know the temps.

the only gauges i have is water temp and oil. factory gauges are not worth a shit, i have spent way to much money on motor to rely on the factory gauges the motor is out of a 01 GT with boltons and had the heads worked.

I like Hondas that have 7 guages and huge shift guage...all of course do not work and just sit at 0 but glow really nice
with all the money these morons spend on guages they could have bought a real car....like a mustang

I've been considering an air/fuel ratio gauge along with a fuel pressure gauge, only because it smells like its running rich. I have also been toying with the idea of a tach, 'cos the factory one goes to 4 grand on start up and stays there. Those are the only ones I thought of getting and if I do, I'll try to keep them as subtle as possible, because the one thing I hate is a monster tach mounted like a dashboard ornament.

gauges are another cheap accesory that makes their car appear so much faster ,with them and the big fart can mufflers you just know they are driveing 200 mph imports.lol

I would like to get a air to fuel guage and that is about all i would get with what i have done. I have a two guage pod for my a pillar but do not like the look of that there with not much done to my car. I would not mind a nice 75 shot of juice but with the blower project on the way i will wait on all the blingin guages till that stuff is done. ha ha ha its great to see people with all these guages that just glow but do not work or are not hooked up to anything. that just shows they can put power to it but know nothing about the engines ha ha.

all i got is a oil pressure and a/f in the bird. oil pressure cuz the stock one only goes to 60pounds and with the pump, im lucky to even see the needle at idle(250rpms sometimes) and 190* it might go to 60

will like me i added fuel pressure and pyromoter like and EGT gauge measures the exhuast gases to see if your runing lean or rich used on pistion airplanes good for you air fuel ratio if you want to tweek the car fuel or timeing some and fuel pressure is not a bad one to have also, There are people out there that put all those gauges to look good and dont have any idea what it is used for just more light and make people thing omg that guys car is fast lol

well I put my water temp and oil press. guages in mostly just because of reliablity issues and also so that i could keep and eye on whats going on with my car a little easier, my car not being equipped with tilt, made it a little harder to see those guages when u are sitting at the tree. it was a whole lot easier for me just to look a little to the left and be sure i have good oil pressure and know how hot my car is. :thumpupn:

I have a monster autometer tach with shift light, an a/f guage, and a water temp guage. I always put a water temp guage in a stang, because the factory one is shit. The a/f guage is for the nitrous. DO NOT BUY AN A/F GUAGE!!!! iTS GARBAGE!!!!! Spend your money on a wideband. My a/f guage says that off the juice im pig rich, all the way to the right. On a dynojet dyno with wideband, the wideband a/f meter says im dangerously lean!!! Oh, and has anyone noticed how their autometer tachs dont match what the factory tach reads? Thats why I have one!

I think gauges with a purpose are ok but monster tachs aren't needed on a car with a factory tach, just get a small shift light.

The A/F gauge gets a lot of Flack about being useless. I think of it this way a Kid in a honda sporting his gauges pulls up beside me thinking I am going to race this stang. Then he looks over and sees my night rider impersonation light and thinking to himself man his A/C is loud. :hmmm: Anyway there is no way I can beat a stang with the night rider light kit. He'll be fast for sure I'll just roll out slow then pass him later with a fly bye  So technically I just saved gas and the cost of a ticket for street racing all because of my A/F gauge :thumpupn:

I have no guages and the litle sixer will get no guages until the blower gets put on. The monster tach in the hondas kill me esp. when some jackass is rolling around the parking lot hitting his Rev Limiter and the shift light is making the inside of his car look like its on fire! Just makes me realize that no matter how much you try you can never get away from Import stupidity. When I do get my blower I will get a boost guage and a temp guage that will be all. I might get a column mount guage pod just so I can still play with the local rice without scaring them off!

  lmfao
An a/f gauge will work wellif hooked up to a wideband. All wideband units come with/can order units that convert the volt output so that your standard autometer a/f gauge reads steady. No more bouncing bar, and for any setup where air flow has been significantly change I strongly suggest it. Plus in my opinion the standard gauge looks better then the digital read outs that most come with.

ok I guess i am guilty of having too many gauges. lol I bought a triple gauge pod for my door jam but i use nitrous so i got the A/F gauge, Oil pressure is a must and I have a cobra oil pump so factory gauge i dont think reads right, and just to fill the hole a amp gauge till i get the tubing to route my nitrous gage up to the pod. I have a bigger than normal shift light but that is getting replaced as soon as i get back to the U.S. When you no kidding drag race your car while using nitrous a shift light is a must and that one just happened to be laying around. But it sure is bright. JM2C
