I just received a letter about a class action suit under way for Ford vehicles that were equipped w/ an engine that contained an air intake manifold made entirely from a nylon-composite material. The Plaintiffs in these class action lawsuits allege that the coolant crossover passage of these intake manifolds may crack, resulting in coolant leakage, and that Ford violated state law because it failed to disclose this fact to consumers who bought Class Vehicles. Ford denies these allegations and any wrongdoing. "Class Vehicles" include: Merc. Grand Marquis yrs. '96-'01; Lincoln Town Car yrs. '96-'01; Ford Crown Vic. yrs. '96-'01; Ford Explorer '02 (some vehicles); Merc. Cougar,Ford T-Bird and Mustang '97 (build date after 6/24/97) and Ford Mustang yrs. '98-'01 (some vehicles). This is for 4.6L 2v V8 vehicles (some vehicles). You are automatically a "Class Member" if you currently own or lease one of these vehicles. Proposed Settlement scheduled for Oct. 7 2005. For more info you can visit www.FordManifoldSettlement.com or call toll-free at 1-888-826-3047.

yeah sublime I think you would be covered. my GT is also an '01. I think the Bullet Mustangs aren't though because of their aluminum intake.

Wasn't it the 4.6 liter engines that have the plastic intake? I read it one of the mustang mags that was showing a company making a non-plastic intakes now. The 5.0's up to 1995 were metal.

I could be wrong so if someone more knowledgeable on this subject could help out please do so. I believe the problem is with the coolant crossover passage. This is a part of the intake where the upper radiator hose meets up with the plastic intake. On my '01 GT there is an aluminum elbow that joins the radiator hose to the plastic intake. The intake itself is plastic just underneath the aluminum elbow and I believe that this is the part that is breaking on our intakes,.. that is located on the front lower right side of your intake as you are viewing the engine from the front of the vehicle. Ford ended up changing this part of the intake at some point in time and that is why only "some vehicles apply". If your part of the intake just underneath the aluminum elbow is also aluminum then this coverage will not apply in your case. This is my understanding... Oh and yes this is referring to the 4.6L V8's for years and vehicles stated in the first post.

yup nitrous is killer on our plastic intakes, sorry to here about the blow up. You're probably not covered, but hey now you have an excuse to go w/ bullitt or P-51 intake.
