I know there is a breeder around waco that was working on a bobcat-ish house cat. other than that you should talk to a wildlife officer.

I could not tell you the laws in Texas, but I don't know whether the applicable laws may be federal instead of state...

But I know in Florida, in order to own a bobcat or lynx you are required to have a Class 2 cat permit. I have a Class 2 cat permit and a Class 1 primate permit. The only way I could get the permits was to intern (without pay) with someone who had the appropriate animals mandated by the class of permit I was after for one calendar year and 1000 hours and I also had to receive three letters of recommendation.

You may want to check applicable wildlife laws in Texas by visiting your state's wildlife commission website (or by calling them) and also visiting the US Fish and WildLife website and seeing if they regulate ownership of these animals.

Do you have any large cats now? If so :gwtsp:

A few years ago around here there was a guy who had a Tiger and he would set up in parking lots of various shopping centers and for $5 you could get a polaroid picture taken of your and the Tiger. Kathy got it done. It was a really cool pic. I use to carry it in my Kevlar helmet (Balistic Hemet for all those Jump Masters out there :D) when I was in the Army.

I'll have to dig up the pics of me and the bobcat, but here are some pics of me and chimpanzees and orangutans.

A class 2 cat permit is only for medium sized cats, like bobcats... to own or work with lions and tigers and the larger cats I would need a class 1 cat permit.

The class 1 primate permit allows me to own or work with the largest primates such as chimps, orangs, and gorillas, as well as all the smaller primates such as gibbons.

But the last time I checked, a healthy chimpanzee baby was going for about $35,000... so none of the primates pictured below are mine!

That's funny, I read the title and immediately thought of the Mercury cars and then wondered why the heck anyone would want to buy one?!
