O.k. I know that this isn't the right place to post this thread, but it has the best chance of surviving here.

Has anyone ever done a swap of a 98 cobra engine into a 88-93 Mustang?

I've got a guy I work with that is putting a 98 Cobra Engine into a 79 Ford Fairmont, Don't Ask!!! Anyway he's going to use "I quess" an 88 dash and wiring harness from a Mustang GT. He needs a wiring diagram for the 88 side so he can make the connections. I just thought if anyone has done it it might help. He bought the Engine, Tranny, Drive shaft, and the tranny crossmember for $3500, the Cobra had 45,000 on it. Someone flipped it and it was totaled. I think I'd put it in another Mustang thou.

I woudl just go with an aftermarket engine but hey he got a good deal. he has it out he should put some new heads in it. It could be done though.

He should have bought the whole car. Unless he goes with an aftermarket fuel injection setup, he's gonna have one hell of a time getting it to work.

Hey stay on track here would ya  No Prob.

No this guy is like already got it running, He wants to change out the dash to put in an 88 Mustang Dash, with all the 88 bells and whistles I quess. He was basically looking for a wiring diagram of the 88-90/93. He's a Turbine Engine design engineer for Pratt and Whitney, I say give him a diagram of an 88 ford escort and he'll make it work somehow. This whole thing started because of my Mustang calender in my in my cubicle.

Yes, especially after seeing some black cars at WFC8 with them. I'm about to go on a billet interior rampage too for the same reason...

As far as the swap goes, I thought I read Fairmont. If he's already past the problems associated with the fuel system and wiring then he might be able to pull it off. The Fox dash wiring probably isn't going to work, here's why...

The speedometer drive is an electronic pickup (modular guys correct me if I'm off) Even if it isn't, then it's VSS driven like in the 94/95's. (pretty sure it's the first). This is in no way compatible with a cable driven speedo on a Fox.

At some point along the way (99 up for sure) Ford started driving the tachs from the EEC and not the TFI. Probably in 96 when the distributor went away. Won't swear to that one.

How is he getting around PATS? Thats a three part deal between the instrument cluster, the EEC, and the PATS module under dash. (again 99 up detailed, pretty sure it was the same in 98)

I don't think there's any way to just splice into the Fox harness and get the results he's after.

What a naysayer, huh?
