Well i got offered a new job working for verizon. I would be installing phone lines in peoples houses. Starting pay is 14 to 22 an hour depending on experience. I was told i woudl start out "Neer the high end of that scale" due to my computer engineering experience. Was wondering if anybody else here has worked for verizon or does work for verizon. My mom has for about 20 years. She is over NC GA TN and this area. Give me your input on this type of job. I want somethign outside and not sitting around all day. :gso:

Congratulations on the new job. I have only worked for two employers over 26 years, The USAF, and DynCorp Technical Services.

Once again Congrats on the new job

Being the 12 year Navy veteran that I am, and having been stationed at Pearl Harbor (right next to Hickam AFB) for several years, I can say with AUTHORITY that working and USAF cannot be used in the same sentence! ;)

MyCobra, it sounds like a good entry level position with decent pay and perhaps some decent benefits. Verizon may not always be called Verizon, but I'd be willing to bet your job would not be affected by mergers and the like. If you've got some skills and talent, you'll find yourself movin on up (to the eastside) where the pay and benefits get better still. Sounds like one of those opportunities of a lifetime. The kind you'll always look back on and say "what if I had...?"

I'm a computer guy and have seen tons of people go out and do the cable pulling thing whether it's Cat5 or Telecom. They all hated it. I don't know. It's your family that is more to worry about. If it's gonna put them in a predicament, then re-think it. If you have no family other than yourself, then do it. The worse that happens is you find out you don't like it and go back to what you were doing.

i work for Verizon, and i dont pull cable. Verizon's cost to the end user would be to high. sounds like he'd be running residental lines, pole to desktop. alot of outside work.

As for pulling cable. its boring repeatitive work.
