View Full Version : New suggestion..... Make face-off votes public?
I got a wonderful suggestion from an "anonymous gotstanger" and he/she suggested that when you vote for someone in a face-off their name goes under your name.. and make a sort of list...... this may help show whose voting for who.....
What does everyone think?

in otherwords show who everyone that voted, voted for? Bad idea. then you get grudges. Say if someone asked me to vote, and I thought that the other car deserved to win, then I'm on that persons shit list.

that's better, but I just don't know if it would add or take away. and that would still promote the "Why didn't you vote?" comments in guestbooks and such. just my 2cents.

I dont see it being a good idea either. Feelings may get hurt... I also agree that it would rock to be in more than one face off at a time... I hate the wait... maybe do a limit of like 5 face offs at a time or something... the way it is now is sort of a drag... its fun as hell but Im an impatient person lol...

Not to me. I am able to juggle one face off on gotstang where as I juggle 10 or more battles on RMR plus arenas... it would make it more fun to be able to face off in more than one... but maybe put a cap on it like up to 5... also, just an idea cause I know it pisses some people off when they get challenged and the face off is over before they knew they were in one, but maybe you could set up an email notification when you are challenged that goes directly to your registered email addy... just an idea.

How about instead of showing who voted or who voted for who, why not have a spot for saying why the person did or did'nt vote for either car. Maybe that could give all of us some feedback on what could be done better. It really should be about the car, and not a more popular member, I know it works that way but it still sucks. There's really nothing worse then losing to a car that didn't deserve the win. This goes like in car shows too (Someone brought this up in another thread) I've been up against some nice cars and some that aren't as nice as mine, but because he's more popular with the other people at the event he gets the win. I know I'm babbling.

One other thing I just thought of what about J giving up maybe 2 points if the person voting actual goes to the website of the people in the face-off, or limit voting to having to go to each site before being able to vote and give more points for the extra effort. It might have a positive affect for the car that really deserves the win. O.K. I'm past my .02. I think maybe up to .10.

forgive me if someone mentioned this already, but I'd like to see a box where if someone votes no they can say why.. To me, 'Fake/Insufficiant' is too general and there's probably lots of reasons why folks vote no. Could even make it mandatory that if one votes no they have to give a reason.
Just a thought... :hmmm:

That's a good idea, but I would be afraid that people would take offense sometimes. Like if one heavily modified car in say black versus a stock car in say yellow, I would vote for the modified car, but due to current events, there would be a lot of votes for the yellow car in spite.
and the remarks box would just show a lot of deragatory comments.
Just an example, not trying to ruffle feathers.

I've mentioned this as well, I totally agree. There is someone out there that is voting no on just about every hunt claim, it's kinda weird if you ask me. Lets photoshop my stang in front of a Budweiser truck, when I can get more points for being near a fire truck. I would like to see reasons why as well. Make it so you can't vote Insuffiecient unless you give a reason why.

My reason for suggesting it is because I've sat there on many occassion, wrestling with what to vote.. I think to myself, 'it's not real, but it's not fake either..' Well, for the most part I think most everyone on this site has been fair to eachother giving credit where it is do and taking criticism when it is do, I've seen many examples of this in the forums, and usually the to opposing sides end up seeing eachothers points. As far as a Heavily modified car going up against a stock or nearly stock car well that's just :bs: anyway. I mean come on, talk about an easy win in most cases. As you can see I've gotten my ass handed to me in just about every face-off, I think I started two and the cars I chose were I would say fairly evenly matched. Notice I say the car was fairly evenly matched, not the member, I took on 1 that I think was fairly popular on the site and lost, All the other cars really had nothing in common with mine, most were newer cars and in most cases had a better chance of handing my 5.0 badges to me.
I would like to know why my car wasn't picked over a car that was closely matched with mine, If it's just favoritism then so be it, it's happening anyway, personnally I would like to know if it was because someone is better known or more popular. For me I like the foxes better than some of the newer bodies so I'll tend to vote fox if the fox can stand up next to the challenging car, but if the newer stang is sweet than I'll go that way. I do however tend to vote for the challenged car if the challenger is way off base in calling out a car that he knows can't stand up to his. Grow a set and challenge somebody that is fairly even make it harder to earn the points. I know I can beat an escort any day it's no compettion I bet you feel good beating a 4 banger, but put me up against the car the has similair numbers to mine and you have a race.

This could work I think, to take it one more step, if it's voted insuffecient than the person submitting the claim should be able to resubmit to it with better pics. Unlike if it's voted fake you lose it.

The only problem I see with seperating "fake" and "insufficient" is that "real claim" will surely make 20 votes before either fake OR insufficient will. Even if you have 18 votes for fake, and 18 votes for insufficient, 20 votes for real will still take the points, despite what was a 36-20 vote against it being real. Combine that with the fact that most voters aren't even paying attention to the claim that's being made and you'll never get 20 votes for only fake or only insufficient.
Now come on, who actually voted that a Mustang beside a Ford GT was the same as a Mustang beside a Lambo or Ferrari? While the Ford GT is still a very nice car, it's not a ferrari or a lamborghini by any stretch of the imagination. I might have voted for some other rare and expensive italian exotic, but the not the US made Ford GT. Seriously, if people are going to vote like that, we should just be able to modify the hunt claims any way we want.

I still think something has to be done with the face-offs, b/c to me it's not fun anymore.. it's just a popularity vote - which makes the title of the face off not true. 'Best Overall Car' feels like it should be called 'Most Popular Car' now. I just thought that people would really vote for the Best car in their opinion and not just b/c it's their friends.

I think in the face-offs, you should at least have to put down WHY you voted for the car you did. It can be anonymous, but give us some justification.
If I get 30 votes for my car and 29 against in a face-off, I want to know what 30 people liked about my car, and 29 things that they like better about the other car.

My opinions for what they are worth lol:
On the deal with the claims, a comment box would probably work, so you get a thumbs up there
On the face offs, I think if you force people to have to put a comment and view both sites each and every time, people are going to get bored of view sites for one thing, and for another, people will start to get lazy and not vote at all because its just too much work. I say put an optional comment box that way when people vote, they can leave a little comment IF THEY WANT TO. And if it goes to public votes I wont be voting at all anymore. Voting is supposed to be private IMO.

Maybe your right, But at least the tru votes would probably be out there, If I try to pimp out for votes or if the whole popularity think is going on that my make it a more even contest. If your voting for someone because he's more popular on the site well you can still do that but you have to take the timeto do it, on the same hand that person may be going up against someone fairly new, or in most of my cases does'nt even match up with the car that has challenged then you are forced at looking at the underdog, that ride may in fact be a better car. It just pisses me off when it's not an evenly matched face-off, Look at Cobra94 for instance, in every face-off that he's been in that he's started he has picked a car that closely matches his car, he's not taking the easy votes. Now let's do this do a face-off of his 94 Cobra and my 93 LX, he's got two things going for him 1 he's higher on the food chain, Why? Cobra, good all around dude. 2 just the fact he's got a Cobra he's already got the votes. But Dan wouldn't do that, not to me not to anyone just for the plain fact that he doesn't want the easy win.
Imagine I lost my face off to a 2002 last night, if we're going to continue on this route J should just start giving points just for signing in or 1 point for every hour spent on the site. The face-off is'nt fun not because I've been in like 7 or 8 and only have 1 win but because I'm getting challenged by members who know that they'll get the win. It's not a fair race.
When I'm in a mustang show they don't line me up to a 2002 GT, hell they won't even put me near a 93 Cobra. Why? well it's obvious why, HEY I've got an Idea maybe I'll take on BlackAcid in a face-off called "Best Mustang".

AHHHHHHHHHH, The joy of reading this Thread. This is why I retired my car way back when......You are all finally seeing the light. The problem is, there is really no right way to deal with this problem. The Face-offs are GREAT and I love voting on them, but it is more of a popularity contest or a Gang up on the Little car scenario. I personally give every face-off a fair shot. I check the websites, just to make sure that someone hasn't added any modifications or updated pics. Some people are adding mods all of the time, so you may need to check out their site.
But, here is what I agree with.....I don't think that anyone should be forced to look at anyones site, just to vote, but I do agree with having an anonymous comment box, with just a quick reason as to why you voted. It makes sense and why not let people really know what you think of their car. I know we all have friends on this site, but lets keep it real. Onebad95 knows that if I find a better car than his on this site, I am going to vote for it. Damn, I had a hard time deciding between his and sweetstang when they went at it.
I would be bumbed if we ever lost the Face-offs, so PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, lets keep it real. Lets enjoy what we have........

Maybe it should go into classes like in the Car Shows, Maybe we can't break it down as far as in a real mustang show but at least we may be able to go by body style, I mean I know I would get my ass handed to me by Blown93feature, it's still not a fair face-off, but I'd feel better at least it's the same body style. I wouldn't consider myself the little guy but like I said you put up a newer car against an older car, and I think you'll have the newer car pull out the win almost every time, yes there's exceptions, but not often. The face-offs have been a thorn since the start, I'm not saying we should get rid of them but they need to be revamped.
I've got a sports scenario, I coach a soccer team (10 year old Boys), There are divisions in soccer as some of you may know, Div.3 being a development team, and Div.1 being more of a premier team. Now some of the boys I have a legitimate Div.2 players, like 2 maybe 3. The rest well I can't even consider them Div.3, I mean some of these boys are borderline retarded when it comes to coordination nevermind sports (I use retarded not as a slam I do have a niece with MD, and mental retardation) I don't want to sound harsh on the handicapped. Now the Oxford Youth Soccer Association has put my team in a Div. 2 class. Some of these teams I'm playing are borderline Div. 1 teams. My boys can't even get the ball into the opponents side. There is no comparasion it's not fair and it's frustrating.
I know some of you are probably saying no it's just the stupid coach, stupid Ramvert :dupe:  . But I also coach a 12 year old girls team (Yes I'm a sucker for Punishment) and they play very well.
J J J J J J PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, Think about classes maybe!!!!! I hate seeing all those crossed out ponies when I know I did'nt really have a chance with most of them to begin with.

"It's not my car on a bridge, but it is on jackstands, vote real!"
I think that the lambo or Ferarri claim was made for was because they are rare cars in most areas. The person who submitted that claim found himself in an even rarer oppurtunity to photograph his car with a Ford GT. his comment was something along the lines of not a lambo or ferarri, but better. I had to agree. I would Vote real if someone had there car next to a Saleen S7 as well because they are all rare, exotic, highperformance cars. I dont think that the original intention of the claim was to find an rare Italian car and probably should have been titled, "you car next to a $100,000 exotic sports car" or something along those lines. The catagory should be broadened to allow for the more exotics to be photographed with your car, or be open to a loose interpratation.
edit: im not saying to allow a loose interpretation on all catagories but that one should be an exception

How about making it so the challenged member has to except the face-off instead of being dragged into it because you have enough points. That way if you don't think the face-off would be voted on fairly (meaning on the merits of your Stang) you can decline to participate. I just lost to a member who only has one Mustang pic on their website just had to vent.
And on the Hunt claims Rwest75 is dead-on Lambos and Ferrari's are much easier to get photo's of than the GT is that's why I did it.

The face-offs are a popularity contest. IMO I feel that it should be mandatory to have a comment box when you vote in a face-off that both competitors can read. It should be constructive critisim. I'm reading a lot of what people have to say about this and how it's going to take too long and I don't want to vote then. Fine, if you can't take a minute to explain the reason why you voted for the other person then I feel you shouldn't have voted. I mean, in all honesty if you want to have a person really look at each car (which that's how it should be done) and take the time to look at what each car has done, then you can write a comment and explain why you picked this car. It should be fun and you should take your time, it's not something that you should fly by and click b/c you 'know' that car. What if the other car that you don't know has a lot more done? You didn't even give that stang a chance.

I wasn't contesting the fact that it's harder to get a photo with a Ford GT. That's not the point. I was contesting the fact that it was voted "real" in a hunt claim that clearly stated "Picture with a Ferrari or Lambo." There was zero room for interpretation there. The claim clearly didn't meet the criteria, but was voted in favor with a count of 20-4. Who voted for these?
If it was titled, "picture with a really rare sports car" or "picture with a $100,000+ car" I wouldn't have said a word. I like the fact that you got a picture with a Ford GT. I would love to do the same. Besides, you could have suggested a hunt claim (http://www.gotstang.com/thehunt.php) for "a picture of your stang with a Ford GT."
It's no different than taking a picture of your stang beside K-Mart for a hunt claim that asked for Wal-Mart. How about a picture of McDonalds instead of Burger King? Is that the same?
EDIT - wouldnt you know it? Now there is a hunt claim titled, "picture of your stang with a Ford GT."

I think showing who you voted for will lead to alliances and grudges as well. This system works pretty good. I just can't understand why a car like Sweetstang has so many losses. It's truly a wonderful car.
Maybe we should install some kind of handicap where if you challenge someone you either ask for a spot or give one up.

I agree but the popular vote getters will bitch about that, Like you said a real nice car may be being passed up because you know another car. whatever, I'm just going to ask J to put like 100 crossed out ponies on my site, that way I can be a crossed out Pony Whore, ohhhh wait I already am!!!!

I think everyone should just chill and take it for what it is... a GAME on a mustang forum. Its not a life and death matter. When you nit pick this and make rules for that, and this and that are manditory to vote... it will SUCK.... it wont be fun and you will lose participants. Im not a popular member, at least I dont consider myself one, I bitch too much lol... but, I have my fair share of wins so I dont think I got them on the popular vote. I say leave it how it is except maybe an OPTIONAL comment box. Its just a game guys.

Why? well it's obvious why, HEY I've got an Idea maybe I'll take on BlackAcid in a face-off called "Best Mustang".my last reply to this was deleted or missing. so here i'll try again.
thanks 4 the comments and i agree. dont sell yourself short in a face off between us tho. but your right. we are not in the same class.
i like your idea ..."maybe I'll take on BlackAcid in a face-off called "Best Mustang"
then you can go to the hunt and start "my car with a seat" or "my car next to a tree" or some shit for some easy points. I think your on to something here brotha. :thumpupn:

Come on dude, You now better than that. I'm not selling myself short I think my cars is the Bomb, and Your car is the Bomb, but It's obvious which would be taklen first if they were put out there for free. The Cobra is going first. I'm comfortable with that, I had the money to get what I wanted, I let two or three Cobras slip threw my hands while contemplating what to do with this car. But you put my car up to another car of similar mods, well now you've got a contest. I know you know that, I 'm just saying it. By the way I was just challenged again by another New Age Mustang. I took the challenge but I pimped out my votes to the YMR, god I'm a slut. But I'm not yellow so they'll prob. say screw you and I'll lose another. Oh well here comes another crossed out pony. :ranting: :ranting: :ranting:

MTXpro, I hope you read this....Haveing a title that reads "Just for Kicks" and then putting up 75 points, is not a "Just for Kicks" Face-off, you ASS....Wager 1 point if it is "Just for Kicks". I hope you lose this one CHUMP!!!! My vote went to 93ramvert for a couple of reasons....1) I think 93ramvert has a lot more TLC into his car. 2) He has a vert, I'm partial to verts. and 3) You challenged him for 75 points, because it wasn't "Just for Kicks", it was for you to gain a quick 75 points. NOW YOU LOSE!!!!! :loser:

As much as I'd love to say I could win, there is no chance in hell that I'll pull off a win, unless of course like I said above the YMR come through for me. Doubt it hehehe. I can only shrug my shoulders and give up.
I really appreciate the compliments 04Saleen, I do take care of it, but unfortunately that doesn't matter to a lot of people on the site. I've just decided unless J divides face-off's into classes I'll keep getting my tailpipes handed to me by the Cheesy New Age guys looking for easy points. I did see the just for kicks part, but did'nt really even pay attention to the points, You've made a valid argument. I accepted the challenge on this, because I want to show everyone how this is working. Just since we've started this thread, I've gotten 2 challenges by two New Age Stangs. WTF :hmmm:

I read all the posts in this thread and I can tell ya that when it comes down to it, it dosen't really matter. I have lost face offs to cars that are almost stock and the total price of their car dosen't cover the cost in my motor alone. The real issue is to have fun and to not let yourself get frustrated over something as minuscule as this, or to something you don't agree with because of pride or the obvious. I really enjoy you people, and have made some friends on here, and not to mention we all have a common thread and that's our cars" right?
I believe if there is one solution that could work, it would come from all of you! If you take the time to think about what it is that your looking at and be true to yourself weigh out the differences, you will make a reasonable choice in the face-offs or tournys or whatever is going on.
To top it all off, I believe the main purpose of this site has been lost(and that's to show your car off, meet new people and have a laugh) . I came here because of charlie and his word that this site wasn't like some of the others and that you were excepted and respected unless you ruined it. I told charlie that I wasn't going to join at first because of the very actions and arguments that have gone on here recently and that it always turns out to this. I don't care if I win, lose or draw in these type of events beacuse it's here for fun and if I thought that I needed an ego boost I would go to a real event, for points from real judges.
I say "keep it real" and this site will do great :beerchug:

Bottom line is when there was competition added the main focus of the site was thrown out of wack. Now when I go to a car show, do I go to win, well I would like to but, I go to look at all the Mustangs, but I now I have a better shot at winning against someone in my own class than I would if I were to go up in a Cobra class. Your right Joe we're supposed to be here for fun I guess I'm getting caught up in the points and the rankings. It's when you get people that are on here only for the points and rankings that start to ruin it. I mean most of the members that seem to post are here for interaction and to show there car, and make friends, these same guy's aren't out there slamming people for easy points. Even the more popular members aren't doing it. just since this thread has started I've been challenged in 4 or 5 face-offs, all of them are New Age Mustangs, most members on the site tend to go new age, so of course I lose, I was challenged this morning by a New Age Yellow, well no shit I've got two things going against me. Like I said a few posts ago, I had the money to put myself into a 97 or younger Cobra, or newer age mustangs, I went for my car because it just it was the only one that I had seen that made me say I have to have that car. Now I'm not pissed because memebers aren't voting for me over a new age, hey if you like the car better that's fine, I like new age too. I guess I could ignore the website part of it and just come here, but I like to look at all the cool cars, but it's gotten to the point where I can't even leave a compliment for a car without getting a face-off from that person. I like the idea of having to accept any face-off, not just when you're trying to pick on someone below you.
