Tinted my tails tonight...

Well Cory and I decided to tint our tailights tonight, did his on his TA and it looks bad ass and I had him do mine too, looks pretty hot, theyre still outside in my garage drying since one of my tailights decided to fall off a cabinet in his garage and we had to do one last coat over some minor scratches in the other coats...ill get pics up in the AM when I put them back on I think it's gonna be hot... :devil:

its not spray paint though dork, otherwise it WOULD be flat black, that spray does light transparent/black coats, they arent clear coated right now because I might want to go darker but they are still shiny without it, I have pics on my cam but I can't upload them without my comp

I want to see pics... because when I did mine (about 3 times) it all came out great... but not translucent.. and nothing like if you were to do it with a sprey gun... Thats what im debating to do.. if this "sprey can" is any different.. I will shit my pants. sorry being hostile.. you started it! haaaaaaaaa

im with J on this one...I did mine the same time he did his and we both said FUCK THIS.....I used the NITE SHADES and wet sanded with 1500 grit paper between every coat of black and clear and they still came out FLAT BLACK....I ordered some new ones that were professionally painted with an actual paint gun...Im hoping they look a lot better....Get pics up when you can, J and Mine looked like ass :beerchug:

haha you are one sick pup, ill have the pics once i get my laptop back and the reason yours may have turned out flat black is because you sanded it down, it isnt necessary to sand them after you tint them otherwise you're scrappin off all of the shine and then when you put the clear coat over it you get all the tiny bubbles cuz of uneven surface

I did mine before without sanding the black down and they were Hazy still....they looked perfect when Wet (J's were the same way) but when they dry they looked like crap.....

do you still have em tinted? I put on a 4th coat tonight and they're still shinin I have to go darker on one of em tomorrow but we're clear coating them Saturday, ill try and get pics up a.s.a.p

I did like 8 coats on mine :) mine are on the car right now but are not shiny and glassy like they should be...I sent some out to be prof tinted so im waiting on those to get back here....All in all I should have a fun install weekend coming up...Steeda Triax, Mach 1, new headlights, new tails and some gotstang decals :gso:

yep, yours came out exactly like mine and J's did.....they arent glassy like they should be but are a flat color...Get them wet and you will see what they are supposed to look like...I swear its the plastic that is on our tails or just the paint because I have done friends cars with the Nite Shades and had no problems where as J and I did them at least 3 times for him and I did mine twice and no luck...Even did it in a heat controlled environment and everything....

I think they look alright...just not a good enough finish for my car so I ordered some from X2C

I dont think yer understanding though... I wasnt getting at the darkness.. I was getting at the tint/finish of the color. Yours will look flat... it supposed to look exactly like the outside of the car.... What kind of clear are you planning to 'sprey' on ?

I was thinking the clear would clear mine up as well Roush...but it didnt...only left a sticky tack on the lense that when wet sanded did not leave a very nice finish...In fact, mine look exactly like yours do now with and without clear coat...if you are putting on clear DEF shoot it with a paint gun used to paint cars and use better clear coat, that may work better.....

J stole the pic from X2C of the blacked out lights and they are actually blacked out...they took the picture with a flash and therefor the lense lit up...search Cardomain for a mustang in WA...its a 2003 black cobra that has the lights from X2C and they are not only dark, but glassy as well :beerchug:

Hopefully they work out for you Roush, I would hate to see a crappy finish on the tails especially on your car :(

Yeah im trying to argue.. just giving you the heads up... been around the block with this... I was talkin with a guy at one of the meets I was at last week... he said the same thing.. he had to get them done with a sprey gun... he tried the night shades first, etc...
