Go check out newagegto.com forums, They're bashing everything Cobra. Saying no way it will be sub 40K and no way it will be more than 400hp. I took them on in one of them and got kicked off cuz they did'nt like the fact I was handing them thier ass.

This Cobra is Sweeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!

Go check out newagegto.com forums, They're bashing everything Cobra. Saying no way it will be sub 40K and no way it will be more than 400hp. I took them on in one of them and got kicked off cuz they did'nt like the fact I was handing them thier ass.

its gonna be over 400 easily... a 5.4L SC'd V8? those guys are idiots for thinking anything less.

as for 40K... i'd be willing to bet the tag will say that price, but the dealer markup will be huge on it. I'd bet to buy one now it would be close to 50K :(

Word inside Ford says it is going to be the Ford GT engine detuned to 500hp. As for price, no word yet, but with the Shelby name on it don't expect it to be the deal the 03-04 Cobras were...

I read the same thing! A 5.4 twin screw, 450 horses. <--underated

I read the sticker will be around 40K.. Which surprised me! :wow:

The only thing so far that's dissapointed me is right now they're talking IRS with no Live Axle option.. Hopefully enough potential buyers will write in!

EVERY press release I've checked this morning says live axle. Funny, I woke up and wandered in here around 4am this morning.. Maybe I read it in a nightmare! :looney:

Okay, I find it hilariuos when GTO or Z06 owners bash the Cobras without getting their facts straight.

For one, it is a KNOWN FACT by the Cobra community that the Terminator Cobras (03/04) are underrated at 390 HP. They develop consistently between 435 to 455 bhp, in stock form. They dyno between 365 to 385 rwhp. This is easly witnessed by the stock 1/4 mi numbers of 12.6 seconds and 0 to 60 MPH times in the 4.5 seconds, carrying 3665 lbs (coupe).

That, of course, in a DOHC 4.6L V8 (cast iron block as opposed to the standard aluminum block used in the NA Cobras and the Mach 1).

The 5.4L, in NA form, is already and readily available with 385+ bhp. To claim it to have a factory output of 450 bhp in supercharged form is definately to play the modesty card.

I do believe that SVT/Ford needs to start advertising closer numbers to the actual output, because the 03/04 Cobras suffered from underratings by magazine and general audiences who judged them based on numbers...

A lot of Corvette C5 (non Z06) owners would poke fun at them for having "less than 400 HP, with a blower"... If they only knew...

I'm fine with surprising people on the road, but I also enjoy knowing that people respect a vehicle by its "paper" performance as well.

I respect the new GTO, and I really like the Z06 vette. I admire them because I am a car enthusiast, and I recognize their performance.

But I hate to not see the same kind of mentality coming from others, and as sad as it is, the reality is that most people look at numbers and then make a judgement. With the stock numbers reported by SVT, the Terminator Cobras sound like they would fall under the same performance class as an F-Body, when in fact it is much closer to a Z06.

If magazines looked at it that way, then the $20k price difference would definitely give the Cobra the merits it truly deserves for its achievements.

Heck, even the GTO has damn good performance for the money (it has a $3k lower MSRP than the Cobra).

I hope the 07 Shelby/SVT Cobra gets the recognition the previous one has lacked.

One of the days I was out for the 'HUNT' I went to the local Chevy dealership to take a pic and one of the salesmen came out to talk. He has a POWERHOUSE fox body mustang at home.. We talked awhile about that, but then he proceeded to tell me that Chevy's coming out with a 'late 60's styled' Camaro in 07. Said, it'll have the same engine as the current corvette, but with added goodies. I thought that was interesting. I've always been a fan of 'american' muscle. I'd love to own a 68 camaro w/ a 454! I'd love to own a plymouth road runner too! In my 'previous' days I've owned a 68 olds 442, 64 Impala SS and 97 Mustang Cobra..I wish I STILL had them all! I'm gonna keep my eyes on this new Camaro. I think the new GTO's suck in the 'looks department' and can't keep up with their competition, ie. mustangs.. I hope chevy uses the GTO failure as a guideline of what not to do... we'll see!:cool:

Eddie's message wasn't here when I started writing mine, so let me add, I agree with him in that I respect the GTO's. I have an article regarding a test between them and the Cobras.. In that test they didn't rise to the occassion, and that's what I base my performance opinion on. I base my looks opinion on personal taste..lol Pontiac said sales missed the expectated mark and that's why I referred to it as "the GTO failure". All in all, I'm happy to see thew Muscle cars returning to the marketplace! GO AMERICAN! NOW, if only gas would go back to 65 cents a gallon!

The GTO may be 3k less but, look at the differance. Look at the car your getting for an extra 3k. I'd pay an extra 6k, the gto sucks ass. They also down all of us Pre-2005 owners saying that we're poor losers and none of us can get along. Shit I think this is a pretty tight group. They also say the 2005 owners want nothing to do with us pre-05'ers. But here they are kicking people off there site because their giving facts. If you don't trump up the GTO in there Forum your gone. I found it by looking for info on the 07 Cobra and that was a huge topic on a couple of thier forums. I wasnt rude but I didn't agree and I got the boot.

That looks sweet! It uses the Terminator Cobra engine! But a 6 speed automatic... Hmmm, I don't know, a lot of people hated the Lightning being automatic, but we'll see how that plays out. Hopefully it'll have a sports shift mode.
