What do you guys think? That sounds a little pricey to me. I bought my donor car for $1500 & my 4 cylinder rebuild for $800. Between the two cars, I had the majority of my parts. You ought to be able to find a donor car somewhere.

Ive got a a9l computer and 5 speed tranny from an 89 gt. The tranny will need rebuilt, but its all there and does drive. I have the whole car. If you want some parts, ill sell them, but like I said, the tranny needs built.

i did the 5 spd conversion, pm me and i will tell you exactly every single part needed. I DO NOT RECOMMEND the 5spd conversion. i am not happy with it. i wish i had kept my automatic. yes the HP is utilized to the wheels. yes you will LOVE it for a few months. but after a while you will get SICK of it. you cant even get road head properly (HUGE DRAWBACK) just get a torque converter. trust me the car will run even better than a 5sp. but if you want pm me or email me fivepointohmygod@yahoo.com and ill explain ALL the parts you need and the little details and tools and shit.

besides, its ALOt easier to launch with an automatic... whatever thats just my personal experience and street racing down here in miami

I have had both, an 88GT with the 5 speed and now my 87 vert with the 5.0 and an automatic. At times I miss the 5 speed and rpm-ing it through the gears, particularly on the highway through town (Las Vegas). But with the on the main streets (cruising the strip at 10 miles per hour the traffic and heat Imakes me prefer the automatic. Got the shift kit and will upgrade my torque converter in the near future. I hate second gear and the autos desire to shift when I don't want it to, but that is still me being use to the 5 speed. Save the 2600 and upgrade to a performance automatic. A huge amount of racers are going with performance autos anymore.

I've been looking around for a 5-speed conversion for my 98, but I could only find kits for 66-78 like you. If you find a 1998 kit, shoot me a message, i'd be very thankful.

I did the AOD to 5spd conversion to my 92. I called up All Mustang Performance 1-800-454-8387 and ordered their 86-93 AOD to new 2.95 T-5 swap kit. It included everything needed to do the swap, except the speedo gear, and the shifter console trim piece, I also had to get a exhaust hanger for the 5 speed (AOD one was bending speedometer cable). I ordered all of those from www.50resto.com. The only little problem I had was it took awhile for them to get the new T-5 due to hurricane problems in Tennesee, but they threw in a gift certificate for my wait. I highly recommend AMP for their knowledge and service. They offer multiple choices on the swap; used, rebuilt, new, TKO 500 & 600, and T-56.

Why not consider a street/strip built automatic? the shifting is nice, but the automatic is quickly becoming the street and strip norm. People enjoy the fact that automatics shift at the same point every time if the gas is hit the same on each run.

5.0 Restoration has one at $1406.95. And there are others geared heavily for street and strip that can run up to $2500 depending on what you want to do with the tranny. website: http://www.50resto.com/ Check it out.
