Alright guys, I've made the decision to move on from my auto v6, to a 5spd v8 :w00t: . I've been scouring autotrader, cars.com and all the local dealerships here in Arizona, and NO ONE has a 99+ GT manual. Its insanity. (I'm trying to buy from a dealer so I can straight up trade my low milage v6 for a higher milage GT, kbb says my car's still worth 14k, and most GT manuals at about 50k miles go for 13.5) Besides just trying to locate one, what else should I look out for?!

Any problems with 99+ GT's?
Any warning signs I should look for on a test drive?
Is there a milage point (example 85,000+) I shouldn't buy past, that the engine just goes out at?
Any last advice?

Thanks guys, this site has been more then helpful in the past :j: :thumpupn: :gso:

No major problems with the 99+ GT's, aside from the rear brakes being junk (see sticky on V8 Forum). On the test drive I'd listen for shakes, rattles, idle problems, squeeky brakes, grinding sounds, feel the rotors (before you drive the car) and make sure they are smooth not ruff or have groves in them, just the usual stuff like that. I'd reccomend finding a 99 - 00 not only will they be a little cheaper because they are the oldest new edge mustang, they have a windsor block vs the romeo in the 01+ GT. Dosen't make more power or anything, just better built. If the car has a rear end gear swap, make sure you listen for gear whine. mileage wise a 99 would have around 60-70k miles on it, decreasing of course with a new year. I usually assume a vehicle gets between 10-15 k miles a year anything over that is high mileage.

I'd check on ebay. It may sound risky to buy a car off the internet, sometimes without even looking at it in person. But, if you have a good eye and find the right seller, you can get a great deal! I have purchased two of my previous cars off of ebay motors. Including my current silver 2002 Mustang GT (5 spd). I got it from a very nice chevy dealership in Ohio. I live in Chicago and drove over and picked it up (about 5 hours). I won the auction at $12,700. The car is perfect! 24k miles, charcoal leather, Mach 460, not a scratch, and clean throughout with no modifications. It was exactly what I was looking for, as I had an exact list of specifications I wanted.

I just asked a lot of questions and maintained contact with the seller through email. It took me a month or so of constantly looking everyday for the right Mustang to come around, but I found it. So you can find a great deal on ebay if you take the time to look, and can definetly get a GT in the price range you have set. Lots of dealerships post vehicles for a lower price then they have them set for on their lots. I checked out the dealers web site before I bid and found it in their used car inventory for $14,900. You can also find cars within your area, if you just look. A lot will be a few hours away, but its worth the drive!

The vehicle even came with the factory warranty and I also went ahead and purchased an extended warranty for 5 years. Overall it was a great deal. This is the second vehicle I have purchased off ebay, and I highly recommend it if you know what you are doing. I have also sold two cars on ebay, and pretty much got the prices I was looking for. Another thought if you want a place to sell your V6. Although I think 14k might be kind of high.

Just my .02! :thumpupn:

Now, where to sell my v6? should I go private listing or dealer?

Personally, I would go private listing. I don't think a dealer will give you as much as you can fetch yourself. Especially with your modifications, they aren't really going to take that into account. Where as you can use that to entice a buyer and have your Mustang stand out among others that may be stock. Just an idea.

depends who you go to...i had a dealer that was going to give me 8 grand for my 98 V6 when i only paid 6 grand for it....but my dad decided to be an aids-wad and not let me go through with the deal
