You can check which engine you have by the vin..

The 8th character in the VIN is (6) for Windsor engine plant or (W) for Romeo engine plant.

Neither but it is better to have the windsor block, because of its higher quality construction, also it is more rare than the romeo. It's basically a "heavy duty" 4.6 truck motor with mustang heads n' shit The major diffrence is for peoiple who have to replace or upgrade thier flywheel, The windsors have the 8 bolt crank ( what the cobra has) and they romeo engines have a 6 bolt (not as strong). This is of course only on the v8's I don't know where they built the windstar.... i mean mustang V6 motor at. :D

ok, after further investigation, the x just means that it is a 4.6L, this is from the manual:

The eighth VIN position is the engine displacement and number of cylinders code.

V — 4.6L, EFI (DOHC), eight cylinder.

X — 4.6L, EFI (SOHC), eight cylinder.

4 — 3.8L, EFI, six cylinder.

The Windsor engine was used in 99-00 models. They are better for power adders, but the Romeo has a higher compression ratio 9.4:1 vs 9.0:1 and yields a little more hp stock.

The windsors have the 8 bolt crank ( what the cobra has)

But not the same as the Cobra, they aren't forged.
