Do you like the 2005 Mustang?

I just want to gauge where people stand on this.

Would you pay 27-30K for a 2005 Mustang when it is possible to get a 2003 Cobra for 25-30 (with low miles) or a similiar Roush or Specialty Mustang of late model varity?

No they are fugly peices of crap! I think all owners should hit cruise control doing 80 jump outta the car and see what happens to the vehicle! It may bubble it up even more! Every year the mustang is turning into a beetle more and more..just a matter of time now!

you my friend are wrong. 05 > 79-04. better chassis, better base and GT engine, and i'm sure the cobra is going to be a bit more stoute than a 390hp sc 4.6

In every way the 05 is a better car. A+ to ford. They finally did something right :D

Mabye the engine is sportier...but look at the interior dawg...looks like a crown vic...thats not american muscle, its american hollywood! Guages, seats, steering wheel, dash its all freaken cadillac! Also they are ugly as shit! They are way to luxuristic looking compared to a true sports car!

You must not be familliar with classic Mustangs. The '05 is modeled off of the Mustangs of yesteryear. If I was in the market for a new car, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. The interior straight from the '67 Mustangs.

exactly...i am familiar, but you know the saying, live in the future, not the past...and Ford f'd that up and are visiting the past again and they shouldn't! wow the interior is so fugly! At least go futuristic not futuristic/past! I think the 99-04 were best ever made!

The brunzty guy is pretty young.......me on the other hand, I can remember those early 70's stangs, and even wanted a 65 for my 1st car. My biggest problem was, at 16, total performance was considered dead. Any body remember the slogan "Mustang II, Boredom zero!" How hoky was that? The
V-8's only put out maybe a 150 horspower.............yawn. Because those cars were so pitiful, and it looked as if Mustang's days were numbered, the older cars began to skyrocket in price. That put the older model Mustangs (65-70) out of the reach of this 16 year old, circa 1980.

Back to the subject at hand, I love the new Mustang, and I think the V-6 grill is cleaner. As a daily driver, I would love a V-6. For performance, I believe there is untapped potential in this new 3 valve/cylinder motor in the GT.
This is just another chapter in the history of the Mustang.

Nothing wrong with that... You're from a newer generation and you're allowed to appreciate what's current.

I really prefer the Cobra. Maybe the SC'd DOHC 4.6 might be a big reason I'm so biased, but at the same time I can't wait for the new body convertibles to come out!

I don't go fast in a vert! That's why my Cobra's a coupe...

Verts are nice and relaxing for those weekend drives through the lake road... My girl loves 'em, and well anything that makes her smile makes me happy!

The re-designing with past influences on a futuristic design is what is selling right now, people want the retro look, ford cant please everyone, they are pleasing the masses, in my opinion seeing it in person and perform on a track, i think they got it right!

I like the new cars. I was driving a nearly brand new '92 5.0L when the 94's hit the street. I absolutely hated them. By '95 I owned one. I didn't like the 99's when they hit the street either, but they grew on me until I got the nerve to total my '95 so I could get one.

I've seen maybe 3 05's around town, one a black GT. I'm already liking them. Didn't take a year or two for it to "grow on me". It's great right out of the box.

Bruntzy and Eddie...as far as I'm concerned, there is nothing uglier than an 03/04 cobra front bumper cover, looks like a bottom sucking fish to me. Some of us have been around long enough to have validated opinions...Good thing you two bought your 400hp cars, doubt that either of you could build one yourself...:)

edit: BTW, the 05 mustang is the most discussting attempt to make it look like an older mustang. The 05 is ugly and I would never buy one and nothing will change my mind.

It looks like something out of a t-shirt a ricer would wear, except it's not an import!

I doubt it'll be like that. SVT has a way of keeping cars looking aggressive, yet subtle all at the same time... Well, the Cobra R was a little out there, but that's pretty much a street legal race car.

Joe, in the first of the classic mustang pics you posted, is the first a '66 GT350H? (Hertz rental car)?

It has the same color scheme, but I think I might be wrong cuz I remember the hoodscoop on the GT350H's being narrower and higher with no divider in the middle.

Can you confirm?

I think it has potiential. I have seen a few on the roads now and not that impressed with the look. Ther rear ends look huge, But the 94/95's gave me the same feeling when I saw them.

I would not buy an 05...the bugs are not all out of the car.

I would not drive a 05 mustang. just becuase of the way they look. For me nothign does it for me like a GT500 (Eleanor). I am only 20 andi would trade my cobra for a GT500 at the frop of a hat.I like the 03 and 04 cobras a lot. On the topic of that photo chop of the new cobra there is no way it will look anythign like that. I love the look but we all know how things change from the photo chops to what the cars really look like. I loved the style of the 05 mustangs that i saw choped and "Real photos" but they look like crap. So do not get your hopes up. So here is my idea

I will agree with that, having sat and rode in a gt500 it is the supreme mustang, but the reality of me having one is much less than an 05 or 99-04 cobra, so im just not getting my hopes up

I agree with those who love the 05. I've been looking for a '67 or '68 fastback for a while, and since "Elenor" came around, the prices have gone through the roof. This 05 is the next best thing. It's old looks with new styling. I guess it'll take a thorough butt kickin from an old 'Stang to get Bruntzy to appreciate them...

The first time I saw one, it was coming down from an overpass towards me, black GT. My first thought was 'damn that is one sweet restoration' That only lasted about 1.5sec before I realized what what heading my way. I flipped my lights at her across the intersection, gave a wave. She rewarded me with a blast off the line while making a sharp left. Sounded great and stayed hooked too, 3 link rear with panhard is definitely an improvement.

Just remember about 80% of the GT350H cars were black with gold stripes, this 80% came from the first release to hertz, when they got the second release of cars, some came white with gold and a couple other colors as well!! Just a little trivia for you guys...

Also the GT350H's were only 1966 mustangs and there were only 1001 made...

They are trying to appeal to all generations by going retro, get the older generations of mustang lovers excited about the mustangs of the past, and puting a modern spin on it to keep the youngins happy...

I think what ford and the other companies have to remember also is most of us from the 40's and fifties already have what we want and most of the guys my age that i know think nothing of dropping 30-40 grand in a car they build up from scratch as opposed to buying something off the lot at the same price.
I think what the companies are looking for with this retro thing is to put old farts that can hardly walk,let alone drive,into what they think are the cars of their youth.
Me? I'd rather drive my Foxes.
